JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Science BS/MBA accelerated joint degree program seeks qualified graduate students, preferably from the Smeal MBA Program, to serve as part-time Teaching Assistants (TAs) for one or more modules of SC 306W, a three-credit Spring 2025 Seminar Course for BS/MBA undergraduates. The primary goal of the course is to provide BS/MBA undergraduate students with familiarity of key concepts that will be useful for co-ops, internships, and the Smeal MBA itself. Course topic modules include: Leadership; Organizational Behavior and Modern Management; Finance; Marketing; Supply Chain Management; Project Management; Entrepreneurship; and Intellectual Property, with an emphasis on business writing, professional presentations, and other communication skills. Modules will be conducted over multiple weeks and will involve self-guided and small group study, with regular interim assignments and quizzes. The course will use a hybrid model with virtual and in-person class meetings twice per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading the weekly synchronous work periods in the TA's area(s) of expertise (typically Tuesdays)
  • Attending the class meetings that involve the TA's area(s) of expertise to facilitate and provide feedback (typically Thursdays)
  • Meeting with students, as needed, to assist them in their self-study
  • Preparing and reviewing quiz materials
  • Providing grading support with in-depth feedback on student submissions
  • Reviewing existing course materials to identify improvements and recommending self-study resources, including Harvard Business Publishing cases and simulations, online resources (e.g., LinkedIn Learning, MOOCs, YouTube), journal articles (e.g., HBR, McKinsey, Deloitte), the Penn State Library, and other sources.

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must be a Penn State graduate student during Spring 2025 semester, with preference given to those in the Smeal MBA Program

  • Applicant must have taken business courses relevant to the seminar course discipline

  • Related work experience is a plus.
