Manager, Purchasing (Space Systems)
Responsible for:


  • Tactical management of day-to-day procurement operations.
  • Implements the strategy to provide the materials and services to meet organizational requirements for quality, volume, availability, and pricing.
  • Maintains strategic supplier relationships, negotiates pricing, monitors performance, and expedites to respond to changes in demand or disruptions in the supply chain.
  • Focus on building a supply chain (including travel to suppliers and core competency review) and utilizing lean techniques.
  • Management of a $25M-$30M annual purchasing portfolio.
  • Collaborates with other functions to meet current and future inventory requirements and manage inventory levels.
  • Balancing supply risk (i.e. capacity, constraints) with improvement opportunities.
  • Hands on activity to solve external and internal issues as they arise.
  • Influence metric improvement for procurement to internal and external customers.
  • Strong managing of staff in a highly transactional organization and mentoring to facilitate employee development.
  • Ability to drive price reductions, holding suppliers accountable to meet delivery and cost targets.
  • Ability to understand big picture of procurement and implement a cross-product strategy to drive down cost and lead time to optimize schedule and financial results.


Minimum Requirements:


  • Sourcing, Purchasing, Planning or Supply Chain experience (5 years minimum)
  • Knowledge of raw materials, machined components, electro/mechanical components
  • Ability to develop dashboards, KPI's and metrics
  • Strong negotiations skills
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Business or Engineering or over 10 years experience in related field.
  • Location: New Jersey
  • US Citizenship required


Background Preferred (but not required):


  • Relevant industry experience
  • Industry relevant certifications (i.e. LEAN, CPIM, APICS, Six Sigma)
  • Advanced Degree (MBA or MS)
  • Understanding of ERP, MRP systems (Epicor preferred)

Work Environment:


  • This job interacts both in a professional office environment and a manufacturing/machine shop environment. This role uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines, as well as environments inclusive of the appropriate eye, hearing and foot protection (as required).
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to conditions typical of a manufacturing/machine shop environment, including, but not limited to: fluids, fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, noise and vibration
  • Temperature of work environment may be affected by outside/external temperatures, machining processes, etc.
  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are 10 hours, Monday through Thursday. Overtime and weekend work are required, as job duties demand.
  • Some travel may be expected for this position (up to 25%)



Physical Requirements:


  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and to use hands to finger, handle or feel
  • The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, stoop, or crouch, and move about the facility.
  • The employee may be required to lift and/or move items weighing up to 25 pounds.
