Radiology Interventional Technologist

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Interventional Radiology Technologist performs interventional and diagnostic x-ray procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician. Uses radiologic technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.

2. *Assists interventional radiologist in all types of interventional radiology procedures performed with angiography, fluoroscopy, CT, OR, and ultrasound.

3. *Practices radiation and laser safety for patients, staff, and self.

4. *Uses sterile technique as required.

5. Performs venipuncture.

6. *Optimally demonstrates patient anatomy through proper positioning and selection of technical factors.

7. *Functions in the first scrub role by preparing, organizing, and anticipating needed instruments, supplies and equipment for safe patient care for interventional radiology procedures; performs external suturing and other physician directed and supervised duties per hospital procedure.

8. *Recognizes and communicates arrhythmias; monitors arterial and/or venous pressure lines.

9. *Competently operates all interventional radiology equipment and support systems to include HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS and teleradiology.

10. *Utilizes hospital and department computer systems, files, and PACS to review patient history and to provide accurate documentation of studies to include patient clinical information.

11. *Properly cares for and images patients of all ages; maintains patient confidentiality.

12. *Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care; communicates with medical staff, coworkers, patients, families, and other hospital staff to assure quality patient care; shares pertinent information regarding patient conditions with physicians, nurses and other professional staff as needed for patient care.

13. *Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination, or questions with courtesy and accuracy.

14. Provides information to patients and families to reduce anxiety and convey and attitude of acceptance, sensitivity, and caring.

15. *Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required.

16. *Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies supervisor of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.

17. *Keeps work area properly supplied.

18. Assists with departmental orientation and student clinical education as directed.

19. *Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Graduate from a school of radiologic technology with current certification or eligibility for certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. Cardiovascular or Vascular Interventional certification preferred. Valid state medical radiographer license required.

OTHER CREDENTIALS / CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Electrocardiogram (ECG) certification required.
