Faculty Professor Research Assistant - Full-Time

The University of Pittsburgh School of Social Work invites applications for a full-time, 12-month appointment stream, non-tenured position as Research Assistant Professor in the Child Welfare Education and Research Programs. The position is available immediately. Salary is commensurate with experience. The assignment is based on the Oakland campus in Pittsburgh and involves research and evaluation of programs located throughout the state.

The School of Social Work at Pitt celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2018 and is consistently ranked among the top schools of social work in the nation. The school is known nationally for its long-standing strength and commitment to child welfare education, workforce development and community engagement. We seek candidates who will contribute to efforts to advance our child welfare research and evaluation agenda, support teaching and learning, and address the changing landscape of child welfare policy and practice within an intellectually stimulating and supportive environment.

POSITION FOCUS:

The faculty member will work closely with Principal Investigator, faculty, and staff of the Child Welfare Education and Research Programs (https://www.socialwork.pitt.edu/researchtraining/child-welfare-education-and-research-programs). Our program continuum includes undergraduate and graduate Title IV-E academic programs and the Pennsylvania Child Welfare Resource Center. The faculty member is jointly responsible for the planning and implementation of statewide research and evaluation activities in child welfare including research design, implementation of protocols, data collection and analysis, report writing, and the scholarly presentation of findings. The faculty member will be responsible for maintaining relationships with 67 county children and youth agencies and the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. The duties of the position include mentoring and oversight of student research activities, participation in ongoing projects, and close collaboration with the Research and Evaluation Department of the PA Child Welfare Resource Center. Some travel is required. Opportunities for teaching and advising are available. The faculty member will participate in the staff and faculty affairs of the School of Social Work.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must have an MSW degree and a Doctorate in Social Work or closely related field from an accredited institution
  • Five or more years of experience in applied research and program evaluation
  • Experience working with ethnically and culturally diverse populations
  • Experience in community-based participatory research and project management

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in mentoring students
  • Successful university/college-level teaching experience
  • Child welfare research agenda
