Overview

The Therapy Aide is responsible for both clerical and patient care duties. The Therapy Aide is responsible for performing tasks in support, preparation for and application of treatment including, but not limited to: maintaining a safe, clean environment, stocked with appropriate supplies and equipment; monitoring, organizing and maintaining inventory of supplies and equipment; transporting patient and supplies; performing general office duties; coordinating departmental volunteers; assisting in the construction and application of adaptive equipment, orthopaedic soft goods and splints; attending to the patient?s personal needs during therapy and assisting in the performance of patient-related activities under the direct supervision of the Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, Speech Therapist, Therapeutic Recreation Specialist; or the Occupational or Physical Therapist Assistant (named ?Therapist? throughout remainder of document). Collects and reports data but does not interpret such data. Demonstrates competencies defined (*) in Therapy Aide responsibilities in providing age-appropriate care and services to patients from the age of birth to 21 years, and selected adult patients.

Hours: Position is full time, 40 hours per week. Aide that will work 20 hours/week in Clintonville (Monday 8 hours/Wed 4 hours/Friday 8 hours) and the aide will work at another offsite, close to home location aroudn Columbus, Tues/Wed pm/Thursday based on needs. Candidates need to be flexible to work between 8am-6pm.

Responsibilities

    Maintains a safe, clean environment; performs routine departmental maintenance and care of equipment and supplies (e.g., disassembles, cleans and assembles equipment; returns equipment to storage; inspects electrical cords regularly to identify safety hazards); completes departmental environmental rounds and submits quality variance to appropriate parties; prepares treatment areas for therapy, stocked with appropriate supplies and equipment.
  • Creates and maintains progress of work orders.
  • Monitors inventory of supplies and equipment, and generates purchase orders as necessary. Organizes and maintains supplies in designated areas. Participates in measures to control department costs.
  • Assists in the transportation of patients, records, equipment, and supplies. Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Performs general office duties (e.g., light typing, photocopying, answering the phone) as needed to assist the secretary, manager or therapist to support departmental operations. Utilizes the computer to perform administrative functions, such as patient registration, completion of on-line forms, and word processing.
  • Coordinates and monitors departmental volunteers and individuals wishing to observe therapy.
  • *Assists in the fabrication and finishing of splints, casts and other adaptive equipment, assists in the application of orthopaedic soft goods and splints under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist or Therapist Assistant.
  • *Assists patients in all stages of treatment (e.g., attending to personal needs, changing clothing, positioning for treatment).
  • *Under supervision and in accordance with instructions issued by a licensed Therapist, assists patients in safely performing activities related to the development of strength, range of motion, and endurance.
  • *Performs other patient-related activities previously determined and assigned by a licensed Therapist, based upon the knowledge, training and qualification of the Therapy Aide.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.

Preferred Experience:

  • Basic skills in using a personal computer required-specifically Microsoft Office and windows-based applications.
  • Basic skill in operating a sewing machine desirable.
  • Previous health care experience preferred.
  • Previous experience in working with children desirable.
  • Prefer certification from medical assistant, STNA or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • CPR certification must be received no later than 60 days post hire or 60 days post expiration.
  • Strong customer service and organizational skills9. Effective interpersonal skills, ability to multitask, ability to problem solve, ability to function in team setting.
