Clinic Histologist - Dermatology & MOHS Surgery

Processes tissues specimens, prepares blocks, slides and stains to assist the physician in diagnosis. Maintains smooth daily operation of the laboratory. Ensures quality and compliance in laboratory operations.

• Processes specimens for gross examination.
• Demonstrates competence in fixation and processing, proper use of tissue processor, instrumentation; maintains proper embedding technique.
• Produces required amount of micron quality slides by proper usage and care of microtome.
• Performs routine H&E stains and limited immuno-stains and special procedures.
• Performs quality frozen sections
• Ensures compliance with all regulatory and licensing agencies including Federal and State CLIA, CAP and JCAHO.
• Monitors inventory levels and prepares orders for lab supplies and materials ensuring timely diagnostic turnaround. Researches and makes recommendations for lab equipment.
• Performs clerical work as needed for storing slides and frozen tissues and other laboratory related functions.

Education: High school graduate required. Bachelors preferred. Successful completion of training as a histologist/histotechnician preferred but not required. Willing to train candidate if previous clinical or pathology lap experience of higher education in lab science.

Experience: One year of laboratory experience preferred.

Licensure, certification, and/or registration: H.T. ASCP, H.T.L. ASCP preferred.

Other Minimum Qualifications: Must be highly motivated and self-directed. Ability to multitask is essential. Must have excellent organizational skills and computer proficiency.
