As part of the healthcare team, the Intermediate Care Tech - Military Medics and Corpsmen Program performs technical clinical services related to the care, cleanliness, safety and comfort for patients of all ages. Provides quality services through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to patient care. This position is responsible for the support of wound care and the mass blood transfusion process as well as draw blood, insert IV's, behavioral and psychiatric situations, Foley insertion, cardiac monitoring, patient transportation, and assistance with bedside procedures. Assists nursing and Physicians with complex, specialized, and potentially life threatening procedures such as defibrillation, cardioversions, insertion of check drainage tubes, or initiation of mechanical ventilation. Will also assist during Code Blues and Rapid Responses. The incumbent must independently recognize life threatening situations and act to correct these according to established national and facility protocols.
The incumbent supports and assists with a wide range of patient conditions. The purpose of the work is to provide efficient support with patient care, patient handling, and patient transport in accordance with protocols. Interacts with unit staff, patients, physicians, families, visitors, management, ancillary departments, and the general public. Maintains patient, staff and customer confidentiality. May be required to sit with patients on suicide precautions. May be exposed to infectious diseases, biohazardous and hazardous materials, including regulated medical wastes, and combative patients.
- Perform necessary interventions based on competencies and established protocols/standards of care.
- Assists in behavioral/psychiatric situations to include crisis intervention, management of aggressive or suicidal psychiatric patients, and one-to-one observations.
- The incumbent must independently recognize life threatening situations and act to correct these according to established national or facility protocols
- Operates specialized medical equipment such as defibrillators, electrocardiographs, and oxygen apparatus
- Exhibits competent knowledge of EMR and assists with chart audits.
- Demonstrates excellent telephone etiquette and interpersonal skills when answering phones and interacting with patients, visitors, physicians, and other health professionals.
- Collaborates with the RN, physician, and other clinical disciplines to meet the needs of the patient who requires transportation between areas of care within the hospital.
- Assists patients with activities of daily living.
- Will assist with ambulation of patients.
- May be assigned to transport patients independently monitoring the patient's condition on campus and during procedures.

What We Require:
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent. Graduate of Military Emergency Medical Course. Honorable Discharge.
Experience: Must be a corpsmen, combat medic or air force medical technician with an honorable discharge in the last 12 months.
Licensure/Certification: BLS, ACLS, PALS within one year of hire.
Other: Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required. Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for position. Must be organized and self motivated.
