Requisition Id14043 Overview: The Mathematics in Computation Section at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) invites outstanding candidates to apply for the Alston S. Householder Fellowship in mathematics and scientific computing. This prestigious postdoctoral fellowship is supported by the Applied Mathematics Research Program in the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Advanced Scientific Computing Research. We are seeking applications from researchers in the broad domain of computational and applied mathematics, including algorithm analysis, artificial intelligence, combinatorial scientific computing, control theory, data science, data driven methods, discrete mathematics, graph algorithms, high-performance computing, integral equations and nonlocal models, linear and multilinear algebra, machine learning, mathematical analysis, mathematics of data, modeling & simulation, multiscale methods, numerical analysis, optimization, ordinary and partial differential equations, numerical solvers, quantum information science, statistics and probability, and uncertainty quantification, for applications with scientific and national priority. ORNL's mathematics research efforts provide fundamental mathematical methods and algorithms needed to model complex physical, chemical, engineered and biological systems. ORNL's computational science research focuses on extreme scale computing and data analysis, storage, visualization. The Fellowship honors Dr. Alston S. Householder and recognizes his seminal research contributions to the fields of numerical analysis and scientific computing. Dr. Householder headed ORNL's Mathematics Section and Mathematics Panel, which are today the Computer Science and Mathematics Division (CSMD). Each Householder Fellowship appointment is funded for a two-year appointment for recipients with proven exceptional academic records and achievements, along with formal mentorship and guidance designed to facilitate successful integration and alignment of their research activities within DOE programs. Recipients are expected to conduct research of the highest quality and impact, elevate the reputation of the Laboratory, and become scientific leaders. The fellowship offers collaborative research opportunities with highly motivated researchers in active programs at ORNL, a highly competitive salary, moving expenses, and a generous professional travel allowance.
