Overview

The Center for Biobehavioral Health, located in The Abigail Wexner Research Institute at Nationwide Children's Hospital (NCH) in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking a part time Research Intern to join the Skeens Lab. The Skeens lab is dedicated to investigating the psychosocial and biobehavioral outcomes of children facing cancer and undergoing hematopoietic stem cell transplant. Our mission extends beyond research to the development of innovative digital health interventions, with a specific focus on underrepresented and vulnerable populations.

The Research Intern will contribute to several projects, the full list of which can be found at the Skeens Lab Website. The Intern will be responsible for assisting on several research projects under the supervision of the Project Manager and the principal investigator (PI), Dr. Micah Skeens.

The Skeens Lab is committed to fostering the growth of trainee staff through dedicated mentorship and hands-on learning opportunities. We emphasize professional development, encouraging trainees to expand their skills, knowledge, and confidence in a supportive environment. As such, if desired by the Research Intern, opportunities may be available to shadow in-clinic research recruitment and contribute to analysis and dissemination effort

Responsibilities

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Conducts clinical study activities as outlined in the study protocol
  • Performs study procedures according to recognized skill level and certifications and within the local and federal regulations and guidelines; adheres to good clinical practices
  • Assists with lab tasks such as data collection (medical chart reviews), data processing (entering data into REDCap, transcribing interviews), administrative tasks (updating regulatory binders, assisting with citation management, conducting literature reviews, etc.), and other support tasks.
  • Performs other duties, including some clerical tasks, incidental to the work described herein


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • High School graduate with two years accredited college coursework majoring in science preferred.
  • Must have a desire to pursue a career in Research, Psychology, Nursing, Medicine or related field
  • Applicant must have excellent oral and written communication skills, ability to manage details, work independently and meet deadlines
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
  • This position may require occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Hours: In-person, part-time, hours flexible

MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Percent of time spent on:

  • 50% Typing on computer
  • 25% Answering phones
  • 11% Miscellaneous paperwork associated with research and OSU faculty appointment
  • 10% Acting as liaison 0
  • 2% Xeroxing
  • 02% Filing

Minimum physical requirements:

  • 100% Kneeling / reaching
  • 100% Finger dexterity
  • 100% Talking / hearing / seeing
