Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Geospatial Post-Doctoral Fellow to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting independent research and assisting with ongoing geospatial research projects at UMSL Geospatail Collaborative. This position is a full-time, temporary appointment for one year, with the possibility of renewal for an additional year, contingent upon available funding.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct independent research in geospatial science using advanced analytical and statistical techniques with a focus on addressing important societal and environmental challenges.
  • Develop and implement geospatial models and algorithms to analyze complex spatial data.
  • Work collaboratively with other researchers and contribute to ongoing geospatial research projects.
  • Collect, process, and analyze geospatial data from various sources such as satellites, drones, and ground-based sensors.
  • Prepare reports, manuscripts, and presentations of research findings for publication and conference presentation.
  • Writing and submitting grant proposals to prestigious federal funding agencies such as NSF.
  • Assist with teaching geospatial courses as needed.
  • Mentor graduate students and participate in the training of junior staff.

Qualifications

* Ph.D. in Geospatial Science/Engineering, Computer Science, Geomatics, or a closely related field, with a strong focus on geospatial science and technology, earned within the past five years.

* In-depth knowledge of remote sensing, GIS, and spatial statistics.

* Expertise in geospatial data, including geospatial analysis and modeling techniques.

* Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, and/or MATLAB.

* Advanced proficiency in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence.

* Strong communication skills and a demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with others.

* Excellent problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.

Evidence of research productivity through peer-reviewed journal publications or conference proceedings.
