The Multiscale Biomedical Systems group in the Advanced Computing in Health (ACH) section in Computational Sciences and Engineering Division (CSED), Computing and Computational Sciences Directorate (CCSD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate who will support the areas of multimodal imaging, AI architecture, scalable AI/machine learning on High-Performance Computing (HPC) cluster. Examples on areas of research interest include but are not limited to:

  • Vision transformers
  • AI foundation models
  • Computing and energy-efficient training algorithms and AI architecture
  • Image reconstruction, segmentation, and classification
  • High performance computing and parallel computing for image processing

Major Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Develop foundation AI models and imaging research capabilities under various projects.
  • Develop, integrate, implement, and deploy novel AI/ML algorithms and workflows on HPC
  • Collaborate with internal and external researchers on related projects.
  • Write peer reviewed papers and technical reports.
  • Participate in conferences and contribute to grant proposal development.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A PhD in computer science/engineering, electrical engineering, data science or a related field completed within the last five years.
  • Experience of AI and efficient computing.
  • Strong programming skills
  • Familiarity with popular Deep Learning platforms such as PyTorch and TensorFlow

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expertise in vision transformer or large language model
  • Expertise in High Performance Computing
  • Expertise in image processing
  • A strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and conferences
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
  • Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs

Special Requirements:

Applicants cannot have received their Ph.D. more than five years prior to the date of application and must complete all degree requirements before starting their appointment. The appointment length will be up to 24 months with the potential for extension. Initial appointments and extensions are subject to performance and availability of funding.
