Posting Summary
The Division of Student Academic Success provides personalized and holistic support that gives students the resources, tools, and opportunities to have a successful college experience. This includes services such as orientation, student success coaching, and programming that support the onboarding of incoming students, as well as the support of affinity-based communities such as first-generation, to help students realize their intersectional identities and navigate higher educational successfully.
Under the supervision of the Executive Director for Student Academic Success, and in partnership with the Assistant Director of Student Support Services, the Sr. Student Programs Coordinator serves as administrative support to the supervisor, as well as leader in planning and executing student success programming and first year initiatives. This includes developing, coordinating, and implementing programming that support first year student transition and success to be implemented through the Student Success Coach Office ( SSCO) and in general, including new student orientation, summer webinar series, summer bridge programs, welcome week, and academic year programming. Additionally, this individual helps oversee marketing and communication efforts that aim to support successful first year student transition and engagement, manages the Student Success Coach Office social media and website and other forms of outward communication to first year students. Lastly, this individual will take a lead in developing, coordinating, and implementing support initiatives for first-generation students through SAS, including efforts that inform and engage first-gen students in opportunities and resources to help support their personal, career, and academic success. This includes coordinating and overseeing workshops and campus-wide programs for students such as Rutgers-Camden first-generation celebration week.
Effective collaboration amongst a network of campus units (Wellness Center, Center for Learning and Student Success, advising offices, Career Center, Financial Aid, Dean of Students, etc.) will be integral to the Senior Student Programs Coordinator responsibilities. This position's duties will emphasize knowledge and implementation of student success programming.

Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. The flexible work arrangements outlined in Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 are part of a pilot program that is effective September 1, 2022 through August 31, 2024. Therefore, there is no guarantee that this flexible work arrangement will continue beyond that date. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, are subject to change or cancellation and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System. Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
Bachelor's Degree (counseling, psychology, social work, or related area strongly preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience plus a minimum of 2 years applicable experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor's Degree (counseling, psychology, social work, or related area strongly preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience plus a minimum of 2 years full-time experience providing coaching, advising, and student support services, as well as coordinating and implementing structured programming for diverse groups of college students. In addition, demonstrated experience in developing student learning outcomes, data analysis, and reporting.

  • Ability and willingness to work collaboratively.
  • Working knowledge of student development theory, appreciative advising model, and other student-centered approaches.
  • Ability to motivate students toward success and achievement of goals.
  • Ability to process/analyze complex information and effectively communicate it to students, parents, and administrators.
  • Ability to develop and implement programming to meet targeted outcomes around first year transition and success
  • Ability to organize and manage competing tasks or multilayered events
  • Strong knowledge of student support programs and ability to make proper referrals based on comprehensive assessments.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to follow through with assisting students.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to function in multi-campus and team environments.
  • Ability to use a personal computer and other office equipment


To provide holistic student success support to undergraduate students, the Senior Programs Coordinator must demonstrate experience in and awareness of best practices in academic coaching, student success, advising, academic support, program design, evaluation, and retention. Experience with curriculum development, data analysis and reporting are integral in being able to help support the development and presentation of assessment efforts for the division. Experience coordinating and executing targeted communication efforts to students is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's Degree; Experience with program coordination, curriculum design in higher education, and managing student support initiatives, LSW or related certification/licensing preferred. Extensive experience and knowledge of advising, coaching practices to support student development and success. Experience working with underrepresented student populations, particularly first-generation/limited income, is strongly preferred. Experience managing student workers, volunteers, or leaders and using emerging technologies and social media to communicate to undergraduates preferred. Experience in developing/coordinating student leadership programs including summer orientations and bridge programs preferred. Experience facilitating programs, workshops, support groups and other services that promote enrollment, retention, engagement preferred.
Equipment Utilized
MS Office, internet, computer competency in reading and evaluating spreadsheets, databases, student information systems, and other computer-based platforms including EAB and Qualtrics. Incumbent may use social media tools to communicate with students and other constituents.
