The Coordinator of Prior Authorization Pharmacy Services provides leadership and practice oversite to the technician team supporting medication prior authorization across the health system. The coordinator develops and implements programs to monitor and evaluate the quality of services provided; to assure compliance with practice standards; executes on departmental goals set forth by Director.

Responsibilities

    Responsible for oversite and operational performance standards for the prior authorization technician specialists within the pharmacy department. This includes infusion and non-infusion medication related workflow needs.
  • Monitors and initiates performance improvement when indicated, collaborates with departmental leaders to ensure service expectations are met, specifically, the clinic embedded pharmacists and clinic leaders in the departments of responsibility.
  • Designs, implements, optimizing workflows to support the ongoing needs for PA documentation within the EMR. Works collaboratively with IS team, patient accounts and finance team to ensure success of program.
  • Monitors and tracks denials and write offs due to lack of prior authorization.
  • Collaborates with prescribers in clinics to support letters of medical necessity and appeals.
  • Provides clinical support for clinics without embedded pharmacist.
  • Coordinates recruitment, interviewing and selection of new applicants. Responsible for the orientation and training of new staff and ensures adequate staffing and scheduling for operations.
  • Develops and enforces policies and procedure for the area of responsibility.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education Requirement:

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college of pharmacy, required.
  • Doctor of Pharmacy, preferred.

Licensure Requirement:

  • Licensure, or licensure-eligibility, to practice pharmacy in the state of Ohio, required.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated strong clinical, managerial, and interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate staff.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Knowledgeable of the full range of pharmacy operations throughout the department and maintain an awareness of developing trends in the field.

Experience:

  • Three years of experience as a hospital pharmacy manager or coordinator, preferred.
  • Pediatric experience, preferred.
