The Risk Control Intern is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in commercial lines insurance, risk management, and safety and health. As an intern you will:
- Work Directly with Professionals: Support risk control experts in the field to help qualify key risk exposures impacting a customers' businesses related to the commercial lines' coverages provided.
- Engage with Customers: Interact with customers to promote awareness and action in managing current and emerging risks related to their operation.
- Advance Initiatives: Interact with the risk control team to enhance initiatives, resources, and capabilities that better qualify and manage risk issues affecting loss performance by business, industry, or line of coverage.
- Learn and Share Best Practices: Learn, develop, and disseminate best practices allowing a safe workplace and that mitigate the business and personal impact related to work, property, liability, and auto accidents.

- Assist in Field Surveys: Shadow experienced professionals in the field to help qualify loss exposures and safety protocols across a wide industry base.
- Support Customer Consultation: Promote awareness and action that enables a business to effectively target solutions that limit the suffering and impact of worker, property, liability, and auto related accidents.
- Data Analysis: Analyze data to identify trends and develop strategies to mitigate risks.
- Report Preparation: Contribute to the creation of detailed risk reports and recommendations allowing underwriters to understand successes and opportunities to a business's risk management program.
- Engage in Meaningful Projects: Work on diverse projects involving research, data analysis, and problem-solving to develop innovative risk control solutions that support risk control team and customers in their risk management efforts.
- Research and Learn: Continuously learn and share safety knowledge and best practices to understand, qualify, and prevent the impact of claims on businesses, their workforce, and the community.
- Assists the business unit in completing the tasks assigned to them, which often includes, but is not limited to, project work and covering the day-to-day operations of the business unit.
- Participates in training programs, workshops, and on-the-job learning opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills related to the field or industry of the internship.
- Participates in summer internship program events, including Lunch and Learns.
- Completes assigned tasks and projects efficiently and effectively, following instructions and guidelines provided by supervisors or mentors.
- Conducts research, gathers data, and analyzes information relevant to the internship focus or assigned projects.
- Takes responsibility for administrative and support tasks of the department.
- Collaborates with colleagues, supervisors, and other stakeholders to effectively communicate progress, challenges, and ideas, and actively participates in team meetings or discussions.
- Works on projects that provide opportunity to collaborate with other interns as well as associates in other departments, ranging from data analysis to mentors.
- Identifies and resolves issues or challenges that arise during the internship, demonstrating problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to finding solutions.
- Demonstrates professionalism, punctuality, and a strong work ethic by being reliable, responsible, and maintaining a positive attitude towards assigned responsibilities.
- Develops business skills in communication and shadowing other professionals.
- Maintaining accurate records, documenting progress, and preparing reports or presentations as required by the internship program or supervisors.
- Attends business unit meetings as assigned and creates and delivers presentations.
- Seeks feedback from supervisors or mentors, actively seeking opportunities for improvement, and applying learning to enhance performance throughout the internship.
- For field roles, only: Expected to drive/travel at least 25% of working time to perform essential functions. This may involve traveling on short notice or other daily driving duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and/or commensurate experience.
- Either actively enrolled in an academic institution in pursuit of a degree in Risk Management, Occupational Safety, Engineering, Business, Finance, Economics, Law, and Psychology or a relevant course of study, or is a recent college graduate, typically having attained a degree within the past 12 months.
- Valid driver's license and a driving record that conforms to company standards.
