Shift:1st shift, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday; no weekends or holidays Location:University of Iowa Health Care - University Campus, 200 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, IA Type of Position: Temporary, limited to 780 hours maximum per fiscal year, no benefits Description: The department of Volunteer Services at UI Health Care (University Campus location) has an opening for an hourly Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT). Under general supervision, the LMT provides massage services to hospital staff and guests. Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
- Explains procedures and applies massage techniques appropriate to client needs and preferences
- Educates and teaches clients on benefits of massage
- Provides a soothing environment for massage
- Maintains confidentiality and sensitivity during client interactions
- Assists in identifying quality improvement opportunities
- Follows UI Health Care's safety guidelines, carries out job-specific safety duties and responsibilities, and promptly reports any unsafe conditions, situations, incidents and injuries.
Department Specific Duties:
- Reviews client history to optimize massage according to client needs
- Consults with appropriate clinical staff regarding treatment plans when necessary
- Documents all massage sessions per established guidelines
- Identifies ideas to market and promote services within Volunteer Services and UI Health Care
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Has knowledge of multiple massage techniques and ability to plan, organize and perform an effective massage session.
- Knowledge of asepsis and sanitation requirements per hospital and massage therapy codes.
- Excellent communication skills and functions as a part of the multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to deal effectively and tactfully and maintain effective therapeutic relationships with others.
- Ability to maintain clients' safety and preserve clients' right to confidentiality.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Experience and Education Requirements:
- One or more years of experience providing massage therapy
- Education sufficient to maintain current licensure
License/Certifications:
- Active Iowa massage therapy license is required
Desirable Qualifications:
- National certification in massage therapy preferred, but not required
Credential checks and background checks (criminal history, child/dependent adult sexual abuse) will be conducted on final candidates. |
