Pharmacy Technician Specialist - Prior Authorization - Gene and Cell Therapies

The Pharmacy Technician Specialist provides medication distributive functions and prescription coordination for their assigned clinic. Works to ensure timely and accurate medication access. The position supports the ambulatory pharmacies by providing assistance to the pharmacists and other clinical staff.

Schedule: (Full-Time, Benefits Eligible)

Monday to Friday - 7 am to 5 pm

Responsibilities

    Accepts prescription, establishes billing/patient charges, documents patient's allergies correctly, interprets and enters information regarding the outpatient prescription into the computer system.
  • Collaborates with other members of the pharmacy team to assure continuity of care and consistency of practices.
  • Prepares shipments appropriately to ensure drug stability during transit.
  • Acts as a prior authorization subject matter expert: monitor, follow-up with and record all insurance prior authorizations and re-authorizations required by payers to help ensure compliance and continuity of treatment. Helps support the appeal process to overturn insurance denials and/or benefit exclusions when needed.
  • Works on patient?s behalf to identify and assess reimbursement coverage options for those with insurance and coordinate and/or investigate financial options for those without insurance.
  • Manages pharmacy stock, including ordering and organizing and notifies pharmacist or inventory coordinators of any problems or concerns.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure:

  • Board of Pharmacy technician license (Registered or Certified).

Certifications:

  • Completion of a pharmacy technician program, two years of experience as a pharmacy technician (preferably in a setting appropriate for the position, e.g. outpatient, hospital, etc), experienced NCH Outpatient Pharmacy Technician in good standing, or a bachelor's degree.
  • Certification as a pharmacy technician or documented passing score on certification exam prior to start date.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated skills in algebra by passing score on math competency administered on site.
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Understanding medical terminology.
  • Ability to problem solve and work independently.
