Overview

NRDC is a non-profit environmental advocacy organization. We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our people helped write some of America's bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our team of more than 600 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and the globe from our offices in Beijing; Chicago; New Delhi; New York; San Francisco; Santa Monica; and Washington, D.C.

NRDC is seeking a Schneider Fellow to work with the International Team in either our San Francisco or Washington D.C. offices.

Position summary:

NRDC's India Program is seeking a Fellow to contribute to the development of supportive research and materials as the team builds out its portfolio of work. The India Program's advocacy is focused on five interconnected strategic priority areas: renewable energy growth and access, cooling and energy efficiency, climate resilience and health, clean transportation, and climate goals and global engagement. The Fellow's specific project will be developed in consultation with the Fellow based on interests, skills, and the India Program's priorities.

The Fellowship will provide an excellent opportunity to be a part of climate and energy-related research in the Indian context, with projects ranging from identifying major barriers and potential solutions to clean energy access, advancing sustainable and energy efficient cooling solutions, building and strengthening resilience to extreme heat, fast-tracking electric mobility targets and adoption, and analyzing India's progress towards meeting its climate commitments. The Fellow will have the opportunity to collaborate with NRDC India colleagues based in New Delhi, and engage with relevant stakeholders and policymakers connected with the project they are working on. Work products and deliverables may include blog posts, internal memos, briefing memos to external stakeholders, and stand-alone analysis or documents that will be incorporated into NRDC reports, factsheets, and presentations.

Responsibilities

Some of the fellow's responsibilities may include:

Conduct research on topics related to the India Program's strategic priorities, including renewable energy, cooling and energy efficiency, climate resilience and health, clean transportation, and climate goals.
  • Identify barriers and develop potential solutions to clean energy access and adoption.
  • Analyze India's progress toward meeting its climate commitments and targets.
  • Work closely with NRDC India colleagues based in New Delhi to align on research priorities and deliverables.
  • Engage with relevant stakeholders, including policymakers, to gather insights, share findings, and contribute to advocacy efforts.
  • Synthesize research into accessible formats for a variety of audiences, including internal stakeholders, policymakers, and the public.
  • Contribute to presentations and discussions to advance the India Program's advocacy objectives.
