The Manufacturing Accountant is the expert in financial processes related to inventory management and manufacturing at Ascentek. This role ensures the integrity of all processes related to the purchasing, manufacturing, shipment, and valuation of inventory. In particular, this role will collaborate with our procurement, operations, sales, and other accountants to thoroughly understand our processes, resolve inventory discrepancies, and improve inventory management processes.



  • Be the subject matter expert in manufacturing accounting processes.
  • Collaborate with other departments and understand their daily operations and how those operations are translated into the ERP.
  • Review discrepancies in the manufacturing accounting process and work to design new processes to resolve the identified process improvements.
  • Variance analysis - purchase price variance, manufacturing variance, and others.
  • Monitor inventory levels across the organization and in-transit rail network
  • Monitor cycle count accuracy across the organization and assess the root cause of errors.
  • Develop standard overhead and labor rates for product costing.
  • Perform ad hoc reporting and analysis to investigate issues or identify improvements as assigned.
  • Prepare manual journal entries as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal controls.
  • Assist in the financial close process, ensuring an accurate and timely completion of the process.
  • Conduct monthly financial reviews and presentations to finance leadership. Includes trend analysis, MoM, and YoY variance analysis of balances and variances to identify possible errors and omissions. Make corrective actions as needed and recommend process improvements going forward.
  • Assist with budget analysis and planning.
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to streamline department and business processes.
  • Assist with interim and annual audit activities, including work paper preparation, supporting analysis, and inventory observation.
  • Respond to internal and external customers in a timely and effective manner.
  • Support organizational and department initiatives assigned by the Controller, or others as delegated by the Controller.
  • Prepare account reconciliations for all inventory accounts to ensure transactions are recorded accurately and reflect accurate balances. This includes identifying and addressing discrepancies between physical and financial records.


  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or equivalent years of experience in Accounting
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of inventory, cost, or manufacturing-related accounting
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent understanding of GAAP
  • Ability to quickly manipulate large data sets
  • Working knowledge of ERP data, such as tables, unions, joins, and extractions
  • Ability to clearly articulate viewpoints and ideas with coworkers and management


  • CPA certification preferred (but not required)
  • Experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or distribution environment with intercompany transactions
  • Familiarity with supply chain processes and inventory lifecycle management
  • Knowledge of large ERP system inventory processes and transactions
