The Department of Africana Studies at Rutgers University-Newark anticipates hiring an African American historian at the assistant professor (tenure track) level to start September 2025. Candidates with research areas in twentieth century African American ecology and women and gender studies are welcomed. This position requires a Ph.D. in history, American studies or Africana studies and two years of teaching. Highest priority will be given to applicants who demonstrate promise of becoming outstanding scholars with research programs that can be supported by external funding, excellence in teaching through advancing and supporting initiatives that deepen pedagogical knowledge and sustain motivated learning in all students, and the ability to provide research mentorship to undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory.
