Job Summary:

WEI is home to the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center (GLBRC), whose mission is to create biofuels and bioproducts that are economically viable and environmentally sustainable.

WEI is looking for a Facilities Manager who will manage and maintain a multi-use research building. The position will be responsible for serving as the point of contact for UW Physical Plant trades related concerns, triaging and determining how to address a situation, coordinating various work in the building, performing and recording inspections and tests, collaborating and building relationships with others, and more.

Responsibilities:
Responsible for the security, custodial, grounds, recycling, repairs, maintenance, and utility services of facilities to ensure that they meet the needs of the university and its employees.

  • 50% Establishes priorities for scheduled mechanical and electrical services within the area of responsibility, administering preventive maintenance programs for facilities, inspecting facilities to determine repair or replacement needs, and supervising the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on campus facilities within the area of responsibility
  • 5% Ensures all protection systems such as fire panels, smoke/heat detectors, sprinkler systems, and pumps are maintained in accordance with the regulatory requirements and industry standards and ensures all emergency generators/power systems, rigging systems, and elevators are properly maintained in accordance with industry standards and are operational at all times
  • 5% Minimizes institutional liability regarding the university's compliance with federal regulations and regulations governing environmental protection, the handling of hazardous materials and hazardous waste, and the use of chemical substances and materials
  • 20% Works with procurement services and planning, design and construction as appropriate in developing bid specifications and contract documents for contract work to be performed, obtaining, reviewing, and analyzing estimates from reputable vendors, and preparing the bid tabulation sheets and associated paperwork to support the request
  • 5% Ensures that the work performance of employees in the area of responsibility and maintenance zones or sections as a whole meet university standards and expectations
  • 10% Coordinates and sometimes directly supervises the performance of emergency and routine maintenance on campus facilities
  • 5% Participates in collaborative activities to promote an equitable, diverse, and inclusive WEI
    community and foster a culture that welcomes, celebrates, and supports everyone


Tasks:

  • Serving as the point of contact with building occupants for facilities related concerns; triage and determine next step needed to address the situation
  • Interfacing with Facilities Planning and Management (Maintenance and Custodial) to make sure they have access and are accomplishing tasks with minimal disruption to occupants
  • Develop relationships and provide occupants and lab/area managers with excellent customer service to assist with managing their needs and/or concerns
  • Assisting with coordinating (email/postings) utility shutdowns for the building. Utilities include: power, water, lab utility, and HVAC related shutdowns that may impact research or general building occupants
  • Performing building inspections of interior public spaces
  • Perform quarterly inspections of exterior of building, adjacent grounds areas, and exterior doors to make sure they are closing/locking. Assist with coordination of space cleanups
  • Creating work orders and track them to make sure work is being completed in a timely manner

Education:

Preferred
Associate's Degree
A degree or certification in Industrial, Technical, HVAC, or related field is preferred


Qualifications:

Required:
- 2 years' experience managing and maintaining a building
- Demonstrated ability to operate and knowledge of power and hand tools.
- Organizational, scheduling and record keeping skills to develop, present, and direct training and work activities.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Have the desire to learn new skills and trades, as well as being able to troubleshoot
- Strong attention to detail and exercises a strong sense of priority and time management.

Strong preference given to those with the following experience:
- UW experience managing a multi-use research building
- Experience working with electrical, HVAC, plumbing, etc. equipment and related company technicians
- Ability to troubleshoot, maintain, repair, and work with service vendors


Work Type:

Full Time: 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Minimum $87,450 ANNUAL (12 months)
