Position Summary:



The Coordinator for Student Life and Onboarding is responsible for organizing and coordinating student life events and onboarding new students. This role combines the responsibilities of welcoming and guiding new students through their initial processes and enhancing student engagement through event coordination. The Coordinator for Student Life and Onboarding, reporting to the Student Support Specialist, plays a crucial role in onboarding and retaining incoming MSW students to reduce attrition of new students (i.e., "melt").



Position Responsibilities:



Student Life Coordination:



  • Coordinate with faculty liaisons to student coalitions and/or student groups to develop programming, including lunch and learn events, job fairs, guest speakers, career planning workshops, and similar activities.
  • Serve as Wurzweiler representative to the New York MSW School Consortium
  • Coordinate with relevant events personnel on technical aspects of event planning logistics for both live and virtual events, including room reservations, tech support, and food services coordination.
  • Meet with students, faculty, and staff interested in developing events and provide guidance on the practical aspects of event planning.
  • Publicize and promote Student Life events to the student body, staff, and faculty.
  • Hold regular meetings with faculty liaisons and student leaders
  • Participate in the summer planning committee.
  • Manage Student Life email.
  • Implement and maintain the WSSW Student Events calendar.
  • Manage room/Zoom bookings using the 25live system.


Student Onboarding:



  • Conduct email, phone, and text outreach to welcome new MSW students in the Face-to-Face/Live Virtual and Block program options.
  • Host group meetings (virtual and/or in-person), after admission, and prior to orientation with new MSW students in the Face-to-Face/Live Virtual and Block program options to:

    • Answer questions.
    • Troubleshoot general barriers.


  • Guide students through the registration process including how to navigate the website.
  • Hold individual appointments and other onboarding communication follow-up (email/phone/virtual meetings):

    • Assist students in resolving barriers to registration or access to YU services.
    • Review students' plans of study to accommodate their schedules.
    • Assist students who decide to defer admission.
    • Refer students to available YU and WSSW services, including the Office of Student Finances, Library Services, Writing Consultants, Counseling Center, Disability Services and Wurzweiler Student Support Services.


  • Host group meetings (virtual and/or in-person) with new MSW students to orient them to the MSW program:

    • Arrange for University presentations related to security, library resources, student finances, and others relevant services.
    • Orient students to program, School and University policies, including Title IX.


  • Arrange for School and program curricular presentations on specializations, advanced certificates.
  • Orient students to student life activities including student collations.
  • Maintain and update Canvas Orientation page.
  • When needed, assist in reviewing applications for admission to the MSW program using the established rubrics.



Experience & Educational Background:




  • Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Social Work, Counseling, or related field (required).
  • Master's degree in Social Work, Higher Education, or Student Affairs (preferred).
  • Minimum of 2-3 years in student services, advising, or event coordination, preferably with graduate or MSW students.
  • Proven ability to organize and manage both virtual and in-person events, including scheduling, logistics, and promotion.
  • Experience in onboarding new students, conducting orientations, and resolving registration or service access issues.
  • Experience working with faculty, student groups, and staff to enhance student engagement.

Salary Range:



$32.15-$32.15 per hour
