JOB SUMMARY

Works under general supervision in Companion Animal Clinic in the Department of Radiation Oncology to provide high-quality cancer care to canine and feline patients owned by private clients. Provides technical assistance to veterinary medical or research staff in delivering health care, including medicine, surgery and radiology to patient owned animals (dogs and cats) through the organization and coordination of veterinary technical tasks.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

Required
  • Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Experience

  • 2 years of experience working with animals in a clinical or research setting or in a veterinary practice setting

JOB DUTIES
  • Assists in enrolling pets with cancer, ensuring they receive timely care.
  • Documents comprehensive medical histories and accurately records prescription usages.
  • Obtains vital signs, collects samples, and meticulously documents patient visits electronically.
  • Administers medications through various routes.
  • Supports radiation and chemotherapy treatments of pets.
  • Provides dedicated after-hours in-hospital care for select pet patients, ensuring their well-being around the clock.
  • Supports the management and follow-up care of enrolled patients.
  • Safely restrains animals for examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Administers anesthesia and analgesia to patients during medical and radiation oncology treatments under supervision of the doctor.
  • Communicates effectively with clients regarding diagnostics and procedures performed on their pets.
  • Coordinates and submits samples to external laboratories, ensuring accurate and timely test results.
  • Strictly adheres to regulatory guidelines, especially regarding the handling and administration of controlled substances.
  • Actively participates in clinical research initiatives and collaborating closely with medical doctors to advance veterinary care.
  • Performs routine diagnostic testing utilizing common laboratory equipment.
  • Participates in University mandated training such as Radiation Safety and Blood Borne Pathogens.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
