Job Description

Summary:
Provide engineering support for facility operations staff to manage day-to-day operations and leadership to guide the operations and maintenance of the University's physical assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Request, review, or evaluate engineering studies and reports developed by outside consultants to provide information necessary to develop long range facilities planning.
  • Prepare engineering analysis of project including preliminary design, calculation, life-cycle cost and equipment selections for managing engineer's review.
  • Perform mechanical engineering design, including but not limited to: heating and cooling load calculations, HVAC equipment selections, HVAC distribution design, hydronic/steam calculations and design, and plumbing design.
  • Advise clients on the project scope, schedule, and budgetary constraints; understand interrelationship between these project components and how they affect project viability.
  • Exhibit understanding and ability to recommend construction/project costs and durations.
  • Exhibit proficiency with building codes, national standards, and guidelines as identified by the University System related to new construction and renovation of facilities.
  • Confer with department representatives to determine and coordinate design criteria for completion of design drawings; advise concerning practical design and feasibility of design drawings for specific projects.
  • Collaborate with other Campus Facility and University stakeholders; understand and apply campus standards for building systems.
  • Review engineering designs, construction drawings and specifications to renovate existing building systems.
  • Review project design drawings for compliance with campus standards regarding design, access, maintainability, and quality.
  • Exercise engineering judgement and provide guidance to facility operations staff, outside contractors, and campus leadership.
  • Assist in evaluating conditions of University's physical assets and advise on capital repair budget and prioritization.
  • Participate in construction observations and punch lists.
  • Exhibit proficiency with AutoDesk AutoCAD/Revit software.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Shift

7:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Monday thru Friday

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary. Licensure may be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering (area of engineering expertise is dependent upon departmental needs), or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Licensed as a professional engineer
  • At least 6 years' experience in engineering (applicable to the position)
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $85,000 - $100,000 annually

Grade: GGS-012
