SUMMARY

The position is responsible for multiple aspects of engineering as it relates to supporting production and operation for Westlake Royal Windows. Activities will include scoping and implementing capital projects and major expense projects, related to windows assembly, testing, machinery & equipment, plant infrastructure, and plant safety. Other responsibilities include continuous improvement of manufacturing processes, new product introductions, and implementing best practices to improve performance.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

May include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Leads capital projects for the Windows plants from start to completion to ensure the successful implementation of equipment and improvements to maintain ongoing operational development.
  • Supports new product R&D activities to include evaluating new concepts, sourcing equipment required to make the new products, and ensuring the handoff to production has been properly executed.
  • Identifies, plans, executes, and communicates results for continuous improvement projects that improve business performance in the form of material yields (scrap reduction), machine efficiencies and operational costs.
  • Proactively works with manufacturing plants, analyzes and presents data to the manufacturing team to resolve any problems, and initiates engineering resolution for production issues.
  • Provide CAD support for products, R&D initiatives, CAPEX projects, maintenance teams, and operations for facilities related projects.
  • Recommend and implement improvements in manufacturing processes, product design and functionality, and equipment design to support improved manufacturing productivity.
  • Interface with manufacturing and maintenance personnel to identify opportunities for improvement and support the operations.
  • Develops technical and business processes that enable effective use of resources and allow repeatability of end results. Coordinate activities that streamline processes and eliminate waste and inefficiencies.
  • Must be able to travel via car and airplane to a variety of locations. Approximate overnight travel time is up to 25%
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the business.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
  • Experienced in Project Management from kickoff to completion working with multiple departments to ensure progress and that all facets are validated along the way.
  • Possess strong organizational skills with the ability to simultaneously manage multiple project assignments.
  • Must be a self-starter with 5+ years of engineering experience, preferably relevant to the windows / fenestration industry.
  • Knowledge and experience in design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA), quality, service, and design of experiments (DOE).
  • Knowledge in failure reporting, root-cause and trend analysis, and corrective action.
  • Strong interpersonal skills include precise and articulate written and oral communication; ability to speak clearly and persuasively in positive or negative situations and demonstrate individual and group presentation skills with the ability to excellently communicate upwardly to top management and downward to a wide range of audiences.
  • Strong computer skills to include CAD (Computer Aided Design), Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Minitab.Experience with Project Management software a plus.
  • Strong background in manufacturing ERP systems, data collection and statistical analysis in dynamic, fast-paced manufacturing environment. Experience with the manufacture of windows is a plus.
  • Holds self and others accountable to create results through disciplined execution, particularly in a team environment.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional and specialized teams.
  • Proven ability to interact and communicate with people of various backgrounds in order to provide technical support for products, communicate technical topics to non-technical people, and diffuse tense situations.
  • Must be able to work effectively and positively with all organizational levels.
  • Ability to read, interpret and comprehend technical documentation such as: installation instructions, architectural blueprints, construction plans, product specifications and building codes.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to touch, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, as normally based in an office. Some of the work may be required in the operating units which can require usage of required PPE including safety glasses, hearing protection, etc. May also result in exposure to outside elements and may require usage of stairs and elevators. Travel including air travel and/or auto travel will occasionally be required. Travel between sites is potentially 1 week per month, up to 25%.
