Job Summary

The Family Services Manager's job duties are multi-fold. The Manager is responible for carrying out day to day operations, customer service, IT of the unit. Additionally, the role includes managing the Child Care Referral Service, which sources and provides information to UCSF families in the areas of child care, public and private schools, summer camps, in home Family Child Care, UC and UCSF-specific benefits and more. The Manager also manages and creates content for the MyFamily web portal and the Family Services website, in addition to handling general Family Services communications and contributing to overall program planning and development. Additional, the role manages the Back Up Care programs and contract ensuring uses are tracked and eligibility requirements are met. The role plans, promotes and executes family education events that are planned throught the year and based on meeting the needs of UCSF families. The role researches other opportunities of resources based on diverse needs of the UCSF population.

General management activities include short and long term planning of the unit.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $75,700 - $123,100 (Annual Rate).

Department Description

The mission of the Campus Life Services - Family Services unit is to increase productivity, recruitment and retention by supporting the well-being of UCSF faculty, students, trainees and staff through child care support, lactation accommodation services, parent education and other resources and assistance. The families served comprise a diverse group in terms of, but not limited to, socioeconomic level, family composition, ethnicity, race and culture.

Required Qualifications


  • Bachelor's degree in related area.
  • 3+ years of relevant progressive experience.
  • Strong skills in short-term planning, analysis, problem-solving, and customer service.
  • Thorough knowledge of financial analysis and reporting techniques, and / or human resources policies and procedures for staff and academic employees.
  • Knowledge of San Francisco child care options and other San Francisco family services.
  • Knowledge of California child care regulations and at least a basic understanding of how regulations may vary by state.
  • General knowledge of how to identify and locate child care services and other family resources across various states. Working knowledge of how to find child care services in other states.
  • Experience working with and Interpersonal skills to interact with individuals of diverse ethnic, economic and social backgrounds
  • Professional customer service experience.
  • Computer skills to use electronic mail, word processing, Excel, web browsers, web content management platforms.
  • Interpersonal skills including verbal and written communication, active listening, critical thinking, persuasiveness, advising and counseling skills.
  • Knowledge of a variety of administrative operational activities such as event planning, basic fundraising processes, risk management planning, website design, accounting and payroll, and contracts and grants regulations and guidelines.
  • Solid knowledge of common University-specific computer application programs.
  • Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications


  • Masters degree.
  • Thorough knowledge of University rules and regulations, processes, protocols and procedures for budget, accounting and fund management.
