Job Summary:

University Housing is looking for leaders with culinary skills to join our Dining and Culinary Services Food Service Supervisor team!

Food Service Supervisors help lead the production of safe, quality food within residential dining facilities on the UW-Madison campus and ensure they meet customer satisfaction and departmental goals.

We're offering a $2,000 to $4,000 hiring bonus and significant night and weekend shift differentials. This position includes paid time off, a free meal for every shift, state employee benefits, and a $1,000 referral bonus for each person hired.

Responsibilities:
Oversees daily food service operations and performs food preparation activities in environments such as dining, retail, and/or catering venues to ensure customer satisfaction and achieve food service goals.

  • 25% Assigns and coordinates the day-to-day activities of food service staff
  • 15% Leads and provides exceptional customer service, answers questions, and provides information regarding food preparation, catering, and associated activities
  • 25% Performs routine and non-routine food preparation activities including cook to order and specialty foods
  • 10% Cleans, inspects, and maintains kitchen equipment and work areas
  • 15% Adheres to federal, state, campus, and local food safety regulations, policies, and procedures
  • 10% Assists and guides student workers


Tasks:

  • Completes required logs and reports.
  • Demonstrates and role models exceptional customer service.
  • Drives food delivery trucks to efficiently transport staff and supplies to other units and/or events.
  • Interacts with English speaking customers while displaying knowledge of food products, allergens, and food safety.
  • Performs duties in a high-volume, dynamic, student residential dining environment.
  • Prepares food (including display cooking) and beverages following predetermined menus, production sheets, and recipes for on and off site catering.
  • Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency.

Qualifications:

- Required: Two (2) years of food service experience in a professional kitchen setting
- Preferred: Six (6) months of supervisory experience in a professional kitchen or catering setting
- Preferred: Three (3) or more years of food service experience in a professional kitchen setting


License/Certification:

Required
Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards
A valid driver's license meeting UW Risk Management standards is preferred for in-unit positions and required for catering positions.

Required
ServSafe Certification
Current ServSafe certification, or the ability to be certified within the first 6 months of appointment.


Work Schedule:

Schedules will be determined at time of offer.

The primary schedule for this position typically consists of 5, 8 hour shifts per week that may fall on any day of the week. Schedules may rotate every other weekend.

Operational and work schedules will be closely aligned with the services and customer needs of the unit. As a result, work schedules may be adjusted during specific times of the year, including summer and winter break hours. Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand.

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

This is a full-time appointment. The starting hourly wage is $22.50 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package.
