Job Description
The Behavior Intervention Specialist will work with Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to develop staff capacity with individual and classroom behavior management strategies, data collection and interventions. The Behavior Intervention Specialist will assist in conducting and coordinating Functional Behavior Assessments and in developing Behavior Intervention Plans that address students' inappropriate behaviors and provide a means to help the students become more academically successful.
- Assist Missouri LEAs (through training, coaching, and technical assistance) in improving academic and social/behavioral outcomes for all students, but especially students with disabilities, with the development and implementation of effective behavior management strategies, Behavior Intervention Plans and Functional Behavior Assessments
- Provide technical assistance to districts over topics such as: defining and measuring behavior; understanding principles of behavior change (including but not limited to reinforcement, consequences, environmental factors); methods and approaches for teaching appropriate replacement behaviors; implementing strategies for weakening undesired behavior; identifying antecedents and triggers; and maintaining consequences
- Attend professional development opportunities to maintain high levels of skill and knowledge of current research and practices related to behavior interventions and positive behavior supports
- Work collaboratively within a School-wide Positive Behavioral Support framework and with PBS consultants, when the district is a PBS school district
- Train individuals or groups of teachers/district personnel on effective behavior management practices, such as determining the function of behaviors and developing, implementing and monitoring behavior interventions using efficient and effective data collection methods
- Train district administrators to review behavior referrals and data reports to look for data trends
- Work collaboratively with Compliance Consultants and Improvement Consultants to assist districts who have been identified, or are at risk of being identified, as having significant disproportionality or significant discrepancy in their IDEA Discipline data, and districts with anomalies in their IDEA discipline data to address systemic behavior concerns, develop discipline self-assessments and improvement plans, and identify alternatives to exclusionary methods of discipline
- Work collaboratively with Compliance Consultants and Improvement Consultants to address systemic and individual student behavior concerns for students with disabilities as identified through Special Education Compliance on-site compliance reviews or child complaints
- Attend and actively participate in statewide resource, support, and training meetings as designated by the calendar
- Report data and consultant activities by the 5th of each month, using a DESE-provided system
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Education, School Psychology, Psychology, Counseling, Behavior Science, or related field, or a License as a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working in a school setting as a teacher, counselor, or interventionist
- Training in Trauma-Informed Care, or the ability to complete training within 6 months
- Master's Degree in education
- Prior educational consulting experience
- Teaching certification and administration certifications
- Experience leading and facilitating collaborative teams
- Knowledge of curriculum design, formative assessments, and the use of data to drive instruction
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle and load/unload presentation materials up to 50 lbs. and set up technology for presentations
- Ability to demonstrate a high level of skills in development, presentation, meeting facilitation, coaching and delivery of HQPD to adult learners
- Working knowledge of technology and be able to use it in development, presentation, and delivery of training and technical assistance

Anticipated Hiring Range
The anticipated hiring range for this position has been established as $52,223-$66,810 annually. Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
