Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Location: Arden Hills, MN

About the role:

As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer in Boston Scientific's Urology Division, you will play a pivotal role in developing cutting-edge medical devices that improve patient outcomes. This position offers the opportunity to work on innovative projects that directly impact the quality of life for patients. You will be part of a dynamic team dedicated to advancing urological health through technology

Responsibilities:




  • Designing, developing, and testing firmware for medical devices to ensure high performance and reliability.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software developers, and clinical experts, to define and implement system requirements.
  • Conducting code reviews and providing feedback to ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards.
  • Debugging and troubleshooting firmware issues to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Participating in the development of technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.
  • Leading firmware development projects, managing timelines, and ensuring project milestones are met.
  • Staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies to incorporate into product development.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and guidelines for medical device firmware.
  • Providing mentorship and guidance to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Traveling occasionally to collaborate with global teams and attend industry conferences (up to 10% travel).



Required minimum qualifications:




  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.


  • 6+ years of professional experience in firmware development, with a focus on embedded systems.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as C/C++ and experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
  • Strong understanding of hardware-software integration and experience with microcontrollers and peripherals.
  • Experience with debugging tools and techniques, including JTAG, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.



Preferred qualifications:




  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience in the medical device industry or regulated industry, particularly in urology or related therapeutic areas.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for medical device firmware, including FDA and ISO standards.
  • Familiarity with wireless communication protocols and cybersecurity principles.
  • Proven ability to lead projects and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Previous experience working at Boston Scientific or with similar medical device companies.
  • Experience with embedded Linux systems
  • GUI development, particularly QT
