Missouri Institute for Defense & Energy

Job Description

A Research Activities Supervisor is sought to support the Missouri Institute for Defense & Energy in its present state and during its growth trajectory to $20M/yr. This staff member will be supported by external awards from various investigators within MIDE, and formally report to the MIDE Director. The Research Activities Supervisor will coordinate and interact with a diverse set of expertise and equipment across MIDE laboratories and facilities, ranging from high voltage electronics systems to uncrewed aerial systems.

Roles

* support MIDE's research and development laboratory experimental activities (high voltage, RF, bio, materials science, and uncrewed aircraft systems)

* maintain MIDE compliance with environmental health and safety requirements

* maintain and organize MIDE equipment and facilities collaboratively with MIDE faculty and staff

Duties

1. ensure compliance with all applicable regulations

2. train and supervise student users of laboratories and equipment collaboratively with equipment stewards

3. coordinate and track laboratory/equipment training for staff and faculty users

4. manage consumable and durable laboratory supplies and materials

5. manage tracking of equipment status and locations

6. manage tracking of laboratory and office space utilization

7. assist in laboratory equipment acquisition, maintenance, and repair

8. maintain consistent communication with laboratory and equipment stewards & MIDE leadership

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

* Relevant laboratory-intensive experience

* at least 1 year of experience employing knowledge and skills in laboratory environment (high voltage, RF, bio, materials science, and/or uncrewed aircraft systems)

* ability to obtain U.S. Government SECRET security clearance

* strong organizational and communication skills

* M.S. in science or engineering

* experience gained from a position within a university research environment with rapidly changing needs and priorities

* experience in testing and maintenance of test equipment such as power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and vector network analyzers.

* experience in operating and maintenance of material deposition and characterization tools.

Anticipated Hiring Range

$25.00 - $35.00 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
