Description
Acara Solutions is seeking an Assembly Technician located in the Austin area to perform electrical and/or mechanical assembly of mass spec instruments.
The person selected for this role will assist with the development of a portable ion trap mass spectrometer. This is an opportunity to assist a company with tremendous growth potential on the ground floor. There is potential for the position to become permanent. Candidate must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to operate under a tight schedule.

Pay rate: $40-55/hr, dependent on experience
  • Principle Responsibilities will be:
    1. Apply sound mechanical engineering principles in a multi-functional team to design, proof-of-concept experiments, new product development, and product enhancements
    2. Updates to existing drawings per redline comments/corrections
    3. Create, review / approve and release drawings to in-house and external machine shops
    4. Design of analytical instrumentation parts and assemblies
    5. Designing enclosures and packaging, including interfacing with external industrial design firms
    6. Testing and evaluation of components
    7. Interfacing with applications teams to design market and customer specific solutions to analytical problems
Job Requirements
Required Skills / Qualifications:
Masters or Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering or related field, with at least 2 years' experience
Experience with Vacuum chambers or Mass Spectrometry a plus
Preferred Skills / Qualifications:
    • Experience using SolidWorks
    • Able to produce manufacturing drawings with GD&T according to ASME Y14.5 standards
    • Proven ability to design for manufacturability, with strong knowledge of common machine shop tools and design rules to optimize cost efficiency and functionality
    • Experience designing assembly methods for complex systems
    • Understanding of DFM and DFS concepts
    • Experience with multiple manufacturing processes
      • Preference will be given to candidates that have worked with, designed, and/or built chemical detection instruments, in particular: miniature, portable, or ruggedized field instruments
      • Knowledge of documentation and quality control procedures (ISO, UL, CE, etc.)
