ASU/Substance Use Residential Float Nurse (Part time)
The ASU/Substance Use Residential float nurse will provide consultation and direct support to our 16-bed Acute Stabilization Unit (ASU) (Providence) and two 16-bed substance use residential programs: Wilson House (Pawtucket) and Jellison House (Johnston). Each of these sites offers trauma-informed, person-centered, and evidence-based mental health and substance use disorder treatment. Our Substance Use Residential programs promote recovery in safe, home-like environments with an emphasis on building strong treatment communities. The nurse is an integral member of an interdisciplinary team that together offers counseling, psychoeducational groups, holistic and mindfulness-based stress reduction, life skills, medication management, care coordination, family support, and more.
Specifically, the nurse will deliver quality care by:

  • Assessing and monitoring clients for behavioral health or medical symptoms in collaboration with the clinical team.
  • Reconciling and documenting medication regiments following admissions or medication changes.
  • Administering medications
  • Providing support and education for clients and staff on the impact of substance use and co-occurring disorders on health and wellness.
  • Providing crisis intervention, milieu management, and health education as part of an interdisciplinary team.
  • Collaborating with referral sources, external providers, and other agency departments as indicated.
  • Assisting in safety planning and crisis assessment and support when needed.

We are seeking an empathetic, caring, energetic nurse for this position. The ideal candidate will have a passion for mental health and substance use disorder recovery, works collaboratively within a team, demonstrates commitment to utilizing supervision and consultation, and can exercise sound judgment. Given the high degree of respect and autonomy this person is afforded, we invite those with creativity, flexibility, and a solution-focused approach to apply.
Our team appreciates the value of supervision, collaboration, and client-centered care. As a community mental health center, we understand how social determinants of health impact our client's overall wellbeing, and we work to remove disparities and barriers at systemic, community, and individual levels. We value training and growth and, as such, hire new graduates.
Education/Licensing Requirements: Rhode Island LPN or RN licensure required. Language skills compensated: culturally and linguistically diverse candidates strongly encouraged to apply.
