1. Brief statement of duties and responsibilities:

The Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Pittsburgh invites applicants for a full-time 12-month faculty position to provide physical therapy services to student-athletes at the University of Pittsburgh and assist teaching within the University of Pittsburgh Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. The Department of Physical Therapy, housed within the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is ranked number 1 by the US News and World Report and offers both entry-level Residential and Hybrid DPT program options. This position serves the University of Pittsburgh Sports Physical Therapy Division 1 program.

The Department of Physical Therapy has an established relationship with the Athletics Department by supporting a faculty member to work directly with the football team on a daily basis. We are looking for a person who can take full advantage of our established relationship and expand it as a member of the sports medicine team.

Specifically, this position would provide physical therapy services to the University of Pittsburgh's Men's and Women's Soccer, Baseball, Softball, and Women's Lacrosse teams. The individual will also assist the athletic training staff in the daily medical management of student-athletes, as well as with practice/game coverage.

The individual will also serve as a teaching assistant within the Department of Physical Therapy Residential and Hybrid Doctor of Physical Therapy programs. Specifically, assist in lab activities for the residential Anatomy, Kinesiology, Musculoskeletal curriculum, and Advanced Therapeutic Exercise classes, as well as assist during immersions for the hybrid program. The individual will also have the opportunity to directly lecture in the aforementioned classes.

2. Minimum objective qualifications; other desirable qualifications:

Requirements for the position include:

  • Licensed as a physical therapist or eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania
  • Current license as an EMT, and/or current certification as an Emergency Medical Responder
  • Possess Board-Certification in Sports or Orthopaedic Physical Therapy
