Job Description

GENERAL PURPOSE The Court Reporting Monitor provides a digital capturing of the spoken word utilizing court-monitoring software for the retention and production of the official Court record.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED This position reports directly to the Chief Court Reporter, Associate Court Administrator, and District Court Administrator.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED This position is not responsible for the supervision of other employees.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION Takes notes concurrent to digital timestamps of required Court proceedings, including but not limited to: trials, hearings, and conferences using digital software and equipment. Interrupts proceedings, if necessary, to verify spelling to ensure the accuracy and completeness of the record.
Responsible for typing, proofreading, correcting, printing, binding, and distributing transcripts to all authorized parties via the specified delivery method (U.S.P.S. mail or electronic).
Utilizes Rule 4000 directives for billing of prepared transcripts which shall be followed and substantiated with the Court Administration representative for justification to the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts (AOPC).
Responsible for the retention and archiving of personal information sheets and raw digital recordings that are backed up electronically.
Answers all correspondence, electronic or otherwise, relating to requests for transcripts.
Maintains and submits for filing with the appropriate division, a complete record of exhibits.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE - Completion of a high school, or general equivalency diploma; AND
Possession of an Associate's degree in Specialized Business preferred, but not required; AND
At least one (1) year of full time, or full-time equivalent, experience in a legal, governmental, or judicial organization which has included responsibility for recording and transcribing of legal material.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Knowledge of legal and medical terminology commonly used in Court proceedings, hearings, and conferences.
Knowledge of the conduct of legal proceedings, hearings, and conferences.
Thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling, punctuation, and usage.
Typing skill that meets or exceeds eighty (80) words per minute.
Ability to type in Word and edit typed testimony.
Ability to effectively communicate and maintain working relationships with associates, members of the Judiciary, attorneys, and witnesses.
Ability to maintain complete and accurate records of activities.
Ability to plan and manage workload, establish priorities, and complete administrative processing requirements in a timely manner.
Ability to maintain an established filing system, and other recordkeeping systems.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally, and in writing.
Ability to operate office equipment including, but not limited to, personal computer, foot pedal, printer, copier, and fax machine.
Ability to work independently with strong organizational skills.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English to perform the duties of this position.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT Telephone, personal computer (including word processing and spreadsheet software), calculator, writing implements, fax machine, copy machine, paper shredder, digital/audio equipment, microphones, earphones, foot pedal, and monitors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk or hear.
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds.
