The Role We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced individual to work on our team as a Senior Underwriter in the hospital segment. In this role, you will report to the Director of Underwriting and be responsible for evaluating risk, assessing medical malpractice policies, and determining coverage terms and conditions for hospitals and healthcare organizations. You should have a strong background in medical malpractice underwriting, including experience working with hospitals, healthcare providers, and related facilities. Key Result Areas Risk Management and Underwriting
- Analyze and assess the medical malpractice risks of hospitals and healthcare organizations, evaluating both claims history and potential for future claims.
- Develop and underwrite medical malpractice policies for hospital clients, including determining appropriate coverage limits, premiums, and exclusions based on risk profiles.
- Review policy terms and negotiate renewals and endorsements with hospital clients, ensuring compliance with company guidelines and maintaining a profitable portfolio.
Client and Industry Engagement
- Work closely with brokers, agents, and clients to understand their needs, offer tailored solutions, and maintain strong, lasting relationships.
- Stay informed on industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks in the healthcare sector to inform underwriting decisions.
- Collaborate with claims teams to support the resolution of claims-related issues, providing guidance on policy interpretation and coverage.
Leadership and Operational Excellence
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior underwriters and other team members, offering support on complex cases and enhancing team knowledge.
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of underwriting decisions, correspondence with clients, and risk assessments. Provide regular reports to senior leadership on underwriting performance and trends.

- Deep understanding of medical malpractice insurance policies, claims, and risk management practices in the healthcare sector, particularly for hospital settings
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to assess complex risk factors and determine appropriate underwriting strategies
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex insurance concepts to non-experts and foster positive relationships with clients and brokers
- Strong attention to detail in underwriting and policy development, ensuring compliance and minimizing risk exposure
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and collaborate within a team environment
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in medical malpractice underwriting, with a focus on hospitals and healthcare facilities
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field. Professional certifications (e.g., CPCU, ARM, RPLU) are a plus
