Description
POSITION: Independent Living Specialist

DEPARTMENT: "Kansas Foster Care" (Kansas City, KS)

Salary: $44,000.00 - $47,000.00 (Annually)

(Starting salary depends on education and experience)

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Independent Living Specialist manages and provides services to youth and families referred under the Foster Care Case Management Contract. This position facilitates service planning with the youth, family, and other members of the child's case support team following Cornerstones of Care and the Department for Children and Families policy (DCF), including but not limited to referring the youth to Chafee Services and other benefits available through the state of Kansas. Responsibilities include assisting youth in cultivating natural and informal family and community supports to help them live a safe and healthy life independently. The Independent Living Specialist will develop, schedule, and implement monthly workshops/life skills development sessions. This position develops a plan for a safe and successful transition to adulthood for youth served by partnering with Aftercare staff to develop an Aftercare plan following DCF and Cornerstones of Care policy. Responsible for preparing and providing documents needed for the youth to obtain independent living tools. The Independent Living Specialist I-II maintains face-to-face contact, including required home visits, with youth and placement provider to ensure safety, consistent with Cornerstones of Care and DCF

policy. This position must maintain a flexible schedule to meet the children's and family's needs which includes working after traditional hours and on weekends.

QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires a Bachelors degree in Social Work or other Human service-related field and relevant work experience with children and families. The preferred candidate will have a Masters Degree in Social Work or a related field and be licensed by the Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board to practice in Kansas. Must pass a background check, physical, and drug screening. This position also requires a valid driver's license, proof of current vehicle insurance and reliable transportation.
