Applications Intelligent Automation Engineer (Jr. / Sr.)

You are a highly collaborative, innovative, and solution-focused individual who is passionate about leveraging intelligent automation (IA) to drive efficiency and innovation in various turbomachinery applications and sales processes. This role sits at the exciting intersection of advanced intelligent automation technologies and sustainable energy turbomachinery applications & sales engineering, contributing to the optimization of processes and the enhancement of customer value. As an integral part of the Applications Engineering Team this will be a key 50/50 split role combining Intelligent Automation process development and Sustainable Energy Product solution configuration and proposal development. You will play a key role in developing and implementing first-in-the-business automation solutions that support sustainable growth and operational excellence.

Compensation and Benefits:

The compensation for this position ranges from $99,000 to $178,000 annually, depending on the applicant's skill level. The compensation package may also include incentive opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonuses. What you will own & improve:

  • Design, develop, implement and maintain intelligent automation solutions to optimize application processes and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing, to ensure seamless integration of automation technologies and provide accurate machine design, price, and delivery information to potential customers.
  • Provide customers with technical and commercial proposals, addressing their specific needs and requirements.
  • Conduct regular communication with global customers and internal team members on both our product proposals and technical and commercial aspects of automation projects.
  • Analyze and improve existing processes through the application of intelligent automation technologies, such as AI and machine learning.

What you already know:

  • Strong understanding of automation technologies and their application in various industries.
  • Familiarity, although proficiency preferred, in programming languages such as Python, Java, or C++ for developing automation scripts and tools.
  • Exposure to AI and machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.
  • Ability to build and maintain working relationships with cross-functional teams to support product development and proposal generation.
  • General product sales skills, including affability, patience, and empathy, applied towards the needs of both customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Broad technical knowledge of performance, mechanical, and electrical features of turbomachinery systems and applications.

What you will learn (if you don't know already):

  • Skills necessary to convert industry customer specifications and project requirements into detailed product configurations and technical and commercial proposals using self-developed IA solutions.
  • The commercial risks associated with custom turbomachinery business and how to negotiate key commercial contract terms (i.e. Payment Terms, Delivery, Liquidated Damages, Limitation of Liability, Warranty, etc.).
  • Occasional travel both domestically and internationally to work with customers' technical and commercial teams in their time and space.
  • How to develop a network of contacts and working relationships with the greater Gas and Process (GAP) Marketing, Sales, and Applications teams, as well as the greater automation community.

How success is measured:

  • Demonstrating clear and concise written and spoken language with customers and internal stakeholders alike.
  • Meeting and improving upon agreed deadlines for submittal of complete and accurate budgetary and firm proposals to our customers using Intelligent Process Automation.
  • Communicating knowledge of sustainable product capabilities, applicable markets, and customer requirements.
  • Maintaining, and efficiently improving through IA, budget accuracy within published Applications team targets.
  • Displaying skill in technical and commercial negotiations
  • Using a positive and collaborative "can-do" attitude in support of our customers.
  • Maintaining compliance with Safety Rules, Regulations and OSHA Requirements.

About the Team:

This role reports to the assigned manager within the Applications Engineering Department and will work and collaborate as an integral part of a tight-knit and dynamic team helping to drive the successful capture of new equipment orders to keep the Atlas Copco Mafi-Trench factory full and satisfied. Other team members and collaborators include Applications Engineering Leads, Application Managers, Applications Engineers, Contracts and Commercial Manager, Machinery Performance Engineer and Product Cost and Configuration Specialist.
