Summary

This individual has full operational, fiscal, and human resource responsibility for the entire Production department, which consists of multiple subsections. They set the tone for the culture of the department, ensuring that team members complete their work while being treated equitably and respectfully. This role involves providing vision and motivation to improve recruitment and retention efforts, consistently seeking ways to enhance operations and workflow while maintaining quality and safety standards. Strong leadership, the ability to develop and train team members, and holding people accountable through clear expectations are critical to success in this role.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • High School Diploma required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a similar position, preferably in a food production, kitchen environment, or comparable setting.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership experience overseeing multiple non-exempt employees.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven leadership experience, including in start-up or turnaround environments.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to handle conflict and de-escalate emotionally charged situations effectively.
  • Good understanding of OSHA regulations, HR policies, and employment laws.
  • Knowledge of investigation procedures and root cause analysis.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and operational processes.
  • Strong knowledge of HACCP and food safety standards.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Self-starter who can act independently and adapt quickly in a dynamic environment.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to see the big picture.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret data and manage risks effectively.
  • Ability to collaborate with operational teams, functional leaders, and external stakeholders.

Essential Functions

Supervisory and Management

  • Oversee the Production department and manage the work of all employees within the team.
  • Motivate and inspire team members to exceed expectations through recognition and coaching.
  • Ensure policies and procedures are followed in alignment with organizational standards.
  • Communicate effectively with team members at all levels.
  • Hold team members accountable for meeting expectations.

Operational

  • Take ownership of operations, ensuring responsibilities are managed effectively.
  • Ensure all production tasks are completed accurately, on time, and with high quality.
  • Drive process efficiency and empower team members to resolve operational issues.
  • Proactively identify potential issues and implement action plans to avoid disruptions.
  • Communicate effectively with internal teams and external representatives as needed.
  • Step in as required to maintain operational flow.

Quality and Safety

  • Ensure all processes conform to customer and organizational quality standards.
  • Comply with good hygiene and manufacturing practices (e.g., HACCP, FIFO).
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of work areas according to cleaning plans.
  • Investigate and document incidents or accidents as needed.
  • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with legal requirements.

Human Resources

  • Assist in recruiting, interviewing, and onboarding new team members.
  • Approve time-off requests and manage employee attendance records.
  • Conduct performance reviews and address performance-related concerns.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching, and corrective actions as required.
  • Ensure regular and timely attendance for all team members.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
