JOB SUMMARY

The Application Engineer will be a key contributor in the development and optimization of laser-based materials processing solutions for customer-specific applications. This individual will execute well-defined test plans, engage in pre-sale customer discussions to understand technical requirements, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including laser specialists and beam delivery experts. The role demands a hands-on approach to innovation, driving the deployment of new laser technologies to enhance customer and internal capabilities.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Develop and refine laser materials processing techniques to meet customer requirements
  • Engage in continuous professional growth by leveraging existing tools, resources, and processes
  • Collaborate with Lab Managers or Senior Engineers on well-defined projects
  • Test, validate, and deploy component-level products such as lasers and scanners for customer applications
  • Independently manage basic customer projects while adhering to timelines and quality standards
  • Support trade shows by setting up and demonstrating equipment to customers
  • Prepare and present technical reports, including test results and solution proposals

Requirements

Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Material Science Engineering.
  • Prior exposure to laser technology is advantageous.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and customers.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:



  • Experience in laser micromachining, cutting, welding, or additive manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with CAD software, such as Autocad / Solidworks.
  • Familiarity with controls and software integration in laser systems.
  • Ability to write detailed process and work function documents related to laser processes and lab equipment.
  • Familiarity with laboratory test instruments, including oscilloscopes, cameras, sensors etc.
  • Knowledgeable in basic metallurgy.
  • Highly motivated and hands-on, with consistent ability to follow-through on projects
  • Superior English language communications skills - written and verbal
  • Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization and external customers
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to details



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Lasers/optical assembly, Laser Machining, Material science, Metallurgy.



Physical Requirements:



  • Essential physical requirements, such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing
  • Physical effort/lifting up to 25 pounds as part of equipment setup or lab work
  • Travel requirements less than 10%
