Job Description

Clinical Laboratory Technician:

The Clinical Laboratory Technician is responsible for the processing and analysis of specimens and subsequent result reporting according to laboratory protocol and procedures. This position performs requested clinical procedures on all types of specimens requiring testing performed in a moderate complex testing laboratory.

Laboratory Assistant II:

The Laboratory Tech Assistant II will receive blood, urine, body fluids and other samples for testing. The samples can be delivered by pneumatic tube system, dropped off by phlebotomy and other hospital departments. The person will use the lab computer system to status the sample as received, centrifuge samples as needed and distribute them to specific departments. They will help pour over urines for further testing. They will help maintain reagent and supply inventory and order supplies for each area. When supplies are delivered, they will unpack and restock the supplies to their designated areas. In addition to the aforementioned duties, this role performs many essential functions that includes but is not limited to answering the phone, review and locate pending samples that need testing from pending log review, daily temperatures, inventory control and organization/expiration monitoring of the department's supplies.

Responsibilities

Clinical Laboratory Technician:
  • Performs accurate and appropriate testing of specimens received in the laboratory, according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Reports test results in a timely manner and according to established laboratory protocol and procedures.
  • Follows established procedures for laboratory quality control and reports discrepancies to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Performs daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed, maintenance on instruments and equipment as appropriate. Performs calibration of equipment as required.
  • Troubleshoots instruments, equipment, reagents, and patient specimen's when problems occur. Notifies the supervisor or senior tech if unable to solve the problem.
  • Complies with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety procedures. When handling blood and/or body fluids, universal precaution procedures will be followed in order to minimize exposure to infectious diseases. Safety policies and procedures will be followed when using chemicals.
  • Maintains work area-cleans bench, restocks supplies, notifies supervisor of low stock.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure.

Laboratory Assistant II:
  • Responsible for ordering and monitoring supplies for the Core Lab. Once they are delivered, responsible for unboxing and restocking into appropriate area.
  • Responsible for receiving any blood, urine or body fluid received in the Core Lab for testing. This includes receiving the samples as received in lab computer system, centrifuging, pouring over urines and distributing them to the appropriate areas for testing.
  • Performs many functions for Core Laboratory that include reviewing daily temperatures, answering phone, located samples on pending logs that need testing, inventory control and organization /expiration monitoring of the department supplies.
  • Maintains work area-cleans bench, restocks supplies, notifies supervisor of low stock.
  • Maintains current knowledge/certification/licensure. Pursues professional growth and development.


Qualifications

Clinical Laboratory Technician:

Minimum Education: Associates Degree Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Military trained corpsmen Required
Licenses and Certifications: Clinical Laboratory Technician Licensed State of Florida Upon Hire Required

Laboratory Assistant II:

Minimum Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent Required
