HVAC Journeyman - Groton, CT

The HVAC Journeyman must be a skilled craftsman in their trade and have a minimum of five (5) years actual, practical working experience in the industrial HVAC mechanical equipment service industry. Interaction with customers, ability and desire to develop technical skills, attention to detail while on site, promoting safety and constant communication plays a key role in this position. Must be computer literate and tech savvy.

What you will do


  1. Performs preventative, corrective maintenance, and repairs on following unit types:

    1. Fan coils
    2. Ductless Splits
    3. Split AC units
    4. Swamp coolers
    5. Refrigeration Units


  2. Be the first responder to service calls. The contract requires 30-minutes response to service calls during normal working hours. Call Johnson Controls for the equipment covered in their contract.
  3. Perform work in accordance to established processes and response and rectification guidelines.
  4. Comply with all internal and external requirements including but not limited to environmental, health and safety, and fire protection.
  5. Perform regular facility equipment and systems monitoring and inspection, preventative and corrective maintenance to ensure facility uptime objectives are met, uninterrupted client operation and asset integrity are maintained.
  6. Communicate and records observations about facility equipment and systems conditions and deficiencies and provides suggestions for enhancement and repair.
  7. Monitor facility by conducting facility walkthroughs, equipment and system monitoring and inspection.
  8. Maintain, troubleshoot and repairs equipment and building systems
  9. Responds promptly and courteously to routine and on-demand service requests and performs preventative and corrective maintenance in a timely manner on facility equipment and systems.
  10. Record resolution data within service maintenance management database.
  11. Ensure work completed meets quality, contract response and all other requirements.
  12. Receive, track, monitor and reports status of maintenance and repair work within service maintenance management database.
  13. Initiate documents to obtain formal approval of work required.
  14. Work with subcontractors on equipment repair, preventative maintenance and calibration.
  15. Recommend spare parts and supply purchases for facility equipment
  16. Accurately maintain/complete all equipment logbooks and maintenance records as required
  17. Ensure the manner in which work is performed is in compliance with corporate and legislated policies, procedures, practices and guidelines related to environmental, health and safety, fire protection and any other applicable requirements.
  18. Maintain all assigned tools and arranges for repair and replacement where required.
  19. Assist in enhancing customer satisfaction and maintaining positive relations through manner in which work is performed and services delivered.
  20. Other duties as assigned.

    1. Customer Service: Respond to customer needs, inquiries and requirements in a professional, prompt, respectful and courteous manner at all times.
    2. Performance Requirements: Diligently responds to work orders, work assignments and other work requests in a timely manner consistent with the response and rectification times outlined in the Facility Maintenance Services Agreement, or as otherwise directed by management.
    3. Teamwork: Works together with other maintenance staff, management, Hospital staff and contractors, as and when required, in a cooperative, efficient and respectful manner to complete assigned work.
    4. Safety: Performs all duties in a safe, diligent and careful manner, and in strict compliance with Company and Site-Specific occupational health and safety policies, rules and requirements.
    5. Housekeeping and Clean-Up: Ensures that all work areas are kept clean and tidy at all time in a manner consistent with good housekeeping practices.
    6. General Maintenance: Performs maintenance, inspection and repair work on all facilities and systems within the scope of work defined by the Facility Maintenance Services Agreement ("FMSA"), as and when required, directed or assigned, consistent with his or her skills, abilities and training.




What we look for:
Required

  1. HVAC License.
  2. EPA Universal License
  3. Valid driver's license.
  4. Good verbal and written communication skills.


Facility maintenance experience in hospital, university, food, manufacturing environment, or any other commercial or industrial institutions

  1. Requires a good understanding of mechanical and electrical systems in a large facilities
  2. Experience with Air-Cooled and Centrifugal Chillers preferred
  3. Must be able to read and interpret blue prints and schematics
  4. Must have good communication skills (verbally, written); must be able speak and write in English.


Additional Requirements:

  1. Must be able and willing to work flexible shifts, be available for on-call/standby and emergency call-outs when assigned
  2. Must be willing and able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE)
  3. Must have the ability to use hand tools, lift/carry 50 lbs., and to work on ladders/step stools.
  4. Requires working extended periods on his/her feet in a fast-paced environment.
