Position Overview


Position Summary
The Student Success Retention Coordinator in the Division of Nursing is responsible for fostering student success and retention through proactive support and intervention strategies. This position involves identifying students at risk of academic challenges or attrition and developing individualized plans to address their needs. The Coordinator will collaborate closely with faculty, academic advisors, and support services to monitor student progress, provide academic coaching, and connect students with necessary resources.
Program Management

  • Analyze student academic performance data to identify at-risk students and implement early intervention strategies.
  • Develop and manage individualized student success plans to address academic, personal, and professional challenges.
  • Coordinate with faculty, academic advisors, and support services to provide a cohesive support network for students.
  • Organize and facilitate workshops, study groups, and other academic support initiatives.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust retention strategies as needed to ensure continuous improvement.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of student interactions, progress, and outcomes.
  • Provide ongoing academic coaching and guidance to students throughout their educational journey.


Customer Service

  • Provides exemplar customer service to students, faculty, staff and other constituencies.
  • Serve as a liaison between students and campus resources, ensuring students are aware of and utilizing available support services.
  • Develop and implement programs aimed at improving student retention and graduation rates.
  • Prepare reports and presentations on retention efforts, outcomes, and areas for improvement to school leadership.

Service

  • Participates in academic advising sessions held at both he division and university level.
  • Manages a list of advisees.
  • Develops instructional materials to support academic success.
  • Maintains currency in hospital policies and procedures related to direct patient care.
  • Participates and assists in university events (IPE Day, student orientation, fairs, etc.).
  • Serves as a member of the DON Faculty and BSN Councils.
  • Provides quarterly progress reports on engagement activities.

Performs other duties as assigned by the Dean(s) of the SOHS

Department Required Skills

  • Master's degrees in Nursing
  • Active licensure must be maintained throughout employment.
  • A minimum of 1 year teaching experience either in higher education or staff development in acute care.
  • Strong analytical skills for assessing academic data and identifying at-risk students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working effectively with students, faculty, and staff.


Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education

  • 2 years of teaching experience in higher education or staff development in acute care.
  • Proficiency in using academic management systems and other relevant software.


Required License or Certification
Hold a current unrestricted license as a registered nurse in the state of NC or compact state.
