Essential Job Duties
Wilson College of Textiles is seeking a Research Associate, where you'll collaborate on groundbreaking projects for NASA and play a key role in the future of spacesuit and crew apparel development.
Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead research initiatives on the development, fabrication, and testing of advanced fabric structures and functional yarns for spacesuits and crew clothing.
  • Oversee complex research experiments, ensuring compliance with export-control protocols.
  • Manage research personnel and project tasks to ensure on-time completion of objectives.
  • Provide regular updates and reports to sponsors, including Paragon and NASA.
  • Collaborate with faculty, Wilson College staff, and undergraduate and graduate researchers to design, conduct, and analyze experiments.
  • Contribute to proposals and efforts for securing future funding opportunities in technical textiles research.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience

  • Ph.D. in Fiber and Polymer Science
  • Proven experience in conducting and managing research in the development, fabrication, and testing of advanced materials, especially fabric structures and functional yarns.
  • Experience in applying advanced textile technologies in practical applications

Other Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience managing detailed research projects, ensuring alignment with project timelines, objectives, and sponsor requirements
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data.
  • Experience with generating and maintaining progress reports and updates for internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience working with external partners and understanding their specific research needs and protocols
  • Knowledge of export control protocols and regulations governing research involving sensitive or restricted technologies, particularly in the context of government-sponsored projects
  • Textile background with strong STEM/research trainings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in contributing to or securing future research funding, including knowledge of grant writing and proposal submission for funding bodies in the areas of technical textiles or materials science.
  • Ability to identify potential funding sources and work with faculty and staff to develop compelling proposals for ongoing or new research initiatives.
