Systems Engineer-Contingent

Position Purpose:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Systems Engineer with expertise in resonator design, permittivity measurement techniques, and complex system analysis to support homeland security initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a robust background in engineering, modeling, and algorithm development, combined with exceptional communication skills. This role requires a deep understanding of advanced software tools and the ability to work collaboratively with government and non-government stakeholders.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:



  • Designs and analyzes resonators, fixtures, and techniques for permittivity measurements across a variety of explosives, including military, commercial, and homemade.
  • Develops and implements advanced models and algorithms to support system engineering initiatives
  • Uses engineering software packages such as Mathematica, MATLAB, COMSOL, and Gaussian for analysis and development
  • Conducts in-depth engineering analyses of complex security systems to assess development potential, integration capabilities, and operational value within homeland security contexts
  • Prepares comprehensive test plans, assessment reports, and other project documentation
  • Presents findings and updates to government staff and stakeholders, delivering clear and concise briefings
  • Conducts interviews with government and non-government personnel to enhance system engineering knowledge and inform project development
  • Leads systems integration efforts and oversees the complete project life cycle, from planning to termination
  • Develops project documents, including plans, procedures, data analysis reports, and final reports



Required KSA's



  • Proven knowledge of resonator design and permittivity measurement technique
  • Strong experience in modeling, algorithm development, and the use of engineering software tools
  • Solid understanding of systems integration and project life cycle management
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience in preparing test plans, conducting system evaluations, and delivering presentations to senior stakeholders
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and adapt to changing project requirements



Education/Experience:

A master's degree in engineering from an accredited college or university with at least 12 years of experience OR a Ph.D. in engineering from an accredited college or university with at least 6 years of post graduate experience that demonstrates a professional knowledge of systems development and technology development.

Clearance:

The ability to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance and Department of Homeland Security Fitness is required for this position.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervision of the technical activities performed by the more junior staff members assigned to the project is required for this position.

Working Conditions/Equipment:

The incumbent professional is expected to be present at the work site and/or be available during regular business hours. He/she should also generally be available via e-mail or phone during non-business hours as needed to address critical issues or emergencies.
