Job Summary

The Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions, reports to the Director of Admissions and Outreach, provides leadership and management functions for the evaluation of undergraduate applicants for admissibility and transfer credit. The Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions assists the Director in developing a vision and strategic plan to ensure optimal customer service, campus communication, and operational effectiveness. The Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions provides regular reports of admissions and transfer credit. The position is responsible for overseeing the admissions and evaluation process for domestic, international, and online undergraduate applicants. The position provides direct supervisory oversight of professional staff as well as quality leadership that motivates and rewards staff, produces quality work within a student-centered customer service environment, and meets University deadlines. The unit works closely with other units across the campus community to accomplish the desired outcomes.

Key Responsibilities



  • Manages operational activities of a comprehensive domestic and international admissions and evaluations office, including management oversight of approximately 25 professional staff
  • Manages and provides leadership of personnel and processes affecting operational functions to meet programmatic goals and student/university service needs
  • Consult on and implement CSU, SJSU, and Title V policy for admission; execute impaction process and policies to ensure enrollment management targets are met; review special admissions cases
  • Leads Specialists for other sectors of admission, including online, Veterans, and the international unit for undergraduate admission. This encompasses the direct supervision, hiring, and evaluation of evaluators who evaluate and verify students' eligibility and validate documents
  • Provides appropriate professional development opportunities and holds regular meetings to share information and gather input
  • Assists with establishing and implementing short- and long-range unit goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement
  • Develops, implements, and manages short and long-term strategic goals to enhance customer service with students, faculty, administrators, and staff
  • Develops and implements reporting tools for comprehensive editing and verifying systems for undergraduate evaluations

  • Ability to communicate with constituents in a professional and respectful manner
  • Demonstrated knowledge of admission policies and procedures including CSU, SJSU, and Title V
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, hiring, training, and evaluating professional staff
  • Demonstrated experience with international student admissions with a preference for experience at the undergraduate level
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing technology to improve operations
  • Demonstrated experience in assessment of customer service
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing student information systems, with preference given to PeopleSoft experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing short and long-term strategic goals and initiatives to enhance student success and customer service
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain successful strategic collaborations across departments, divisions, and the campus community at large
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, campus employees, and the general public
  • Demonstrated experience to work effectively in a multicultural environment
  • Demonstrated experience complying with admission policies and procedures related to federal, state, and campus rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated strong written communication skills and ability to write analytical reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals

Required Qualifications



  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Four (4) - Five (5) years of professional level experience within higher education working with student service functions; outreach and recruitment of students to higher education institutions, admissions, program development or academic support programs
  • One (1) - Two (2) years of progressive leadership or supervisory experience in a higher education setting
  • Experience with data collection and assessment reporting



Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's Degree in Business, Academic Affairs, Higher Education, College Counseling/Advising, College Student Personnel or related field or equivalent training, education, or experience
  • Six (6) - Seven (7) years of professional level experience within higher education working with student service functions; admissions, program development or academic support programs
  • Two (2) - Three (3) years of progressive leadership or supervisory experience in a Higher education setting
  • Experience developing and implementing processes
  • Excellent written communication skills



Compensation

Classification: Administrator II
Anticipated Hiring Range: $8,334/month - $9,167/month
CSU Salary Range: $5,053/month - $16,221/month

The final hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
