About The Role

Position Summary

As a Mortgage Loan Originator, you will assist customers with their mortgage lending needs; analyze loan requests and make credit decisions based on mortgage lending policy. The Mortgage Loan Originator originates mortgage loans, strives to attain the mortgage market share and manages the entire loan origination process. They work to develop relationships with customers to create additional new business. In addition, they must thoroughly understand relevant legal parameters, internal policy and procedures, FDIC guidance, relevant accounting issues, compliance with regulations, and audit standards as they relate to job responsibilities and the administrative processes involved in choosing the proper course of action while adhering to and exemplifying our Core Values: Embrace Responsibility, Execute with Excellence, Pursue Growth & Learning, Thrive Together.

The entry-rate for this position is $25.92/ per hour (calculated for Evanston, WY)

Essential Functions:

  • Identifies and develops relationships with potential new customers. Maintains and develops ongoing relationships with current customer base.
  • Markets the Bank's mortgage lending program to companies and individuals within the real estate community and cross sells bank services.
  • Participates in events that promote the Bank and supports the community.
  • Reviews and evaluates information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property, and loan conditions meet bank and regulatory standards. Approves or rejects loan applications or requests additional information. Establishes terms and conditions of an approved loan and reviews with customer.
  • Works closely with the Corporate HUB to efficiently close all loans in a timely manner with proper documentation. Works with Corporate HUB team to ensure all disclosures reports, financial statements, tax returns, title insurance commitments and appraisals are reviewed prior to closings.

  • Evaluates acceptability of loan on secondary mortgage markets. Keeps informed of current trends in mortgage lending and market factors affecting mortgage lending.
  • Maintain current knowledge on mortgage products, underwriting guidelines, and industry regulations.
  • Maintain current knowledge on FBWY's portfolio RE loan products and residential loan policy.
  • Registers with the NMLS and maintains registration per SAFE Act requirements.
  • Calls or visits customers who are delinquent on their loan payment to bring loan current.
  • Regular and predictable attendance in order to accomplish, among other things, in-person contact with customers.
  • Have open communication with supervisor through sharing and accepting suggestions and ideas. Promote team efforts in all areas. Adjustments to change are made as necessary while maintaining a positive attitude.
  • Complete required bank training courses within assigned time frame(s). It is the individual learner responsibility to ensure that they understand the information given to them in each training. If the learner does not understand the information given, they need to reach out to their supervisor for further clarification or additional training.
  • Must Comply with all company policies and procedures and all applicable laws and regulations, including but not limited to, the Bank Secrecy Act, the Patriot Act and the Office of Foreign Assets Control.

About You

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience

  • One to three years of similar or related experience; including preparatory experience is required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associates degree in business or finance, strongly preferred.
    • OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.

Required Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities:

  • Have strong well-developed interpersonal skills in order to maximize business contacts and develop a working relationship with current and potential residential real estate loan customers, regulators, and secondary market contacts.
  • A high level of analytical ability to conduct residential real estate analysis and recommend alternatives available in cases where initial analysis revealed insufficient financial posture.
  • Working knowledge of various mortgage regulatory guidelines (e.g. truth-in-lending, HMDA, RESPA, ECOA, FDPA, etc.)
  • Good knowledge of real estate compliance
  • Previous experience in residential and mortgage lending functions.
  • Good knowledge of FHA, VA, USDA, WCDA, and conventional procedures
  • Proficiency in Ellie Mae Encompass Software and the ability to learn additional computer applications
  • Knowledge of FBWY policy, procedures and products

Must be able to operate routine office equipment including computer terminals and keyboards, telephones, copiers, facsimiles, and calculators. Must be able to routinely perform work on computer for an average of 6-8 hours per day, when necessary. Must be able to work extended hours or travel off site whenever required or requested by management. Must be capable of regular, reliable and timely attendance. Must be capable of climbing / descending stairs in an emergency situation.

Specific lifting abilities required by this job include: Sedentary work. Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation/inspection of machines and/or using measurement devices at distances close to the eyes.

Working conditions: Must be able to routinely perform work indoors in climate-controlled shared work area with moderate noise level.

Travel: Must be capable of up to 25% travel (e.g. 1 week or 5 days/month) by automobile (as driver and passenger), commercial airlines, rental vehicles and public transportation and be able to lodge in public facilities. Travel will be necessary to conduct the duties of this job, and the employee must have the ability to drive and have proper licensing.

Mental Requirements: Must be able to perform job functions independently or with limited supervision and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence.
