UIC School of Law is seeking a SharePoint Systems Administrator to join our IT team. This role ensures, integrity, and efficient operation of the SharePoint environment and in-house information systems that support core organizational functions. This is achieved by monitoring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all networked software and associated operating systems for the UIC School of Law. This position will use effective communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, communicate, and resolve issues to maximize the benefit of IT systems investments. The IT Tec works fluidly across the infrastructure elements of security, storage, and virtualization to deliver new availability, capacity, services, and safeguards. This role will be responsible for the overall health, operations, and security of servers, and cloud instances for the UIC School of Law systems. It is the expectation that this position will be able to plan for and solve the most complex server, virtualization, or storage issues.

Duties & Responsibilities:

SharePoint Administration:
  • Manage and maintain SharePoint sites, libraries, lists, and workflows.
  • Ensure the platform is running smoothly and efficiently.

Site Collection Management:
  • Creating, configuring, and managing site collections and subsites to meet organizational needs.

Content Management:
  • Setting up and managing document libraries, lists, and other content types. Implementing version control and content approval workflows.

Permissions and Access Control:
  • Managing user permissions and access levels to ensure data security and compliance with company policies.

Customization and Development:
  • Using SharePoint Designer, PowerApps, and Power Automate to create custom workflows, forms, and applications.
  • Develop and implement systems automation and integrations using technologies such as APIs, Microsoft Power Platform, and scripting languages such as Python and Powershell.

System Integration:
  • Integrate carious systems and applications to ensure seamless interoperability and data consistency.

Search Configuration:
  • Configuring and optimizing SharePoint search to ensure users can easily find the necessary information.

Backup and Recovery:
  • Implementing and managing backup and recovery procedures to protect SharePoint data.

Integration:
  • Integrating SharePoint with other systems and applications, such as Microsoft Teams, OneDrive, and third-party tools.

Monitoring and Performance Tuning:
  • Monitoring SharePoint performance and making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal operation.

Troubleshooting:
  • Diagnosing and resolving SharePoint-related issues, including connectivity, performance, and user access problems.

Training and Support:
  • Providing training and support to end-users to help them effectively use SharePoint features and functionalities.

System Maintenance:
  • Perform regular system updates, patches, and backups, including the installation, configuration, and administration of Windows servers, Nagios, VMWare VSphere, and Linux servers.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshooting issues as they arise.
  • Installing, configuring, and maintaining physical and virtual servers.
  • Ensuring servers are up to date with the latest patches and updates.
  • Creating and managing user accounts, groups, and permissions in Active Directory and other directory services.
  • Installing and updating software applications across the organization.
  • Managing software licenses and ensuring compliance.

Security Management:
  • Implementing and maintaining security measures, such as antivirus software, firewalls, and intrusion detection systems.
  • Conducting regular security audits and vulnerability assessments.

Backup and Disaster Recovery:
  • Developing and implementing backup and disaster recovery plans.
  • Ensuring data is regularly backed up and can be restored in case of data loss.

Monitoring and Performance Tuning:
  • Monitoring system performance and resource usage.
  • Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks.

Documentation:
  • Creating and maintaining detailed documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Compliance:
  • Ensuring systems and processes comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

  1. Bachelor Degree within Computer Science or closely related field of study
  2. Minimum 1 year of professional IT experience within System Administration & Operations which includes demonstrated experience in configuration, installation, maintenance, backup / recovery and upgrading multi-user computer systems hardware and software as well as establishing/managing user accounts.
  3. Demonstrated experience in SharePoint administration.
