Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Journal Editorial Assistant for the Learning & Teaching department within the Rutgers Graduate School of Education.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Supports editorial process for a scholarly peer review journal.
  • Monitors emails daily.
  • Answers email when appropriate or forward to the lead editor.
  • Maintains the tracking system for where manuscripts are in the review process.
  • Organizes record system and keeping track of all work.
  • Assigns an editor to an article after it has been accepted as in scope.
  • Keeps track of editorial load; helping authors with submissions problems.
  • Examines and binds manuscripts.
  • Works with lead editor to create an agenda for the editors' meetings.
  • Attends all weekly editors' meetings and keeping notes.
  • Archives and sends notes out to editors in a timely fashion after meetings, after editors' meetings, contacting potential reviewers.
  • Sends articles to reviewers who accept requests for reviews.
  • Monitors where manuscripts are in the review process and stepping in when necessary.
  • Sends out decision letters following editors' meeting (prepared by editors but checked and tracked by editorial assistant).
  • Receives reviews from the column editors and sending them to the copy editor as they come in.
  • Provides communication and support for consulting editors, when needed.
  • Handles other duties as necessary.

Qualifications


Minimum Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Certifications/Licenses
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior experience in academia and/or experience in scholarly publishing.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to manage journal Google Drive folders.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work well with others, as well as autonomously.
  • Demonstrate good judgment and flexibility in response to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to manage workflow, prioritize writing and editing tasks, and communicate clearly and with tact, especially as changes to writing are suggested.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
