Position Description:

Purpose

The Project Management team within Information Services at The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) is responsible for a diverse portfolio of project activities. This unit serves as the primary liaison in a consultative manner to Project Sponsors at various levels of leadership to accomplish specific project goals. The Project Manager, under general direction, is responsible for planning, directing and coordinating specific project activities to support institutional or departmental goals. The Project Manager is also responsible for maintaining strong relationships, delivering high quality solutions and providing direction to team resources.

The business needs for this position may be re-evaluated at the conclusion of the outlined term and may be convered to a full-time permanat role.

Primary Functions

  • Executes the planning, development, and implementation of the project(s) working in partnership with interdisciplinary work groups and key stakeholders to meet the strategic vision of the project. Effectively manages implementation schedule and priorities and delivers high quality solutions. Provides direction to workgroups and project team.
  • Applies the best project methodology to the project scope to ensure the most efficient delivery of project outcomes.
  • Project Managers are responsible for ensuring that project scope and objectives are met through effective issue, risk and project change control management.
  • Identifies, secures & manages appropriate resources to provide project deliverables. Ensures all deliverables occur within the approved project scope and that outcomes meet approved project requirements.
  • Based on project scope and requirements, collaboratively establishes the project work breakdown structure and ultimately, project schedule.
  • In concert with project stakeholders or business analysts, plans and facilitates meetings and prepares meeting activities. Manages action items to completion.
  • Creates and oversees effective communication plans that address all aspects of the project and comprehensively target appropriate audiences. Facilitates communication among workgroups and key stakeholders. Composes and edits correspondence.
  • Reports on project status.
  • Utilizes effective project change control to manage the project scope, including costs, hours, and project duration.
  • Effectively utilizes project management tools and techniques, such as creating and maintaining project schedules, risk and issues logs, project change requests, and status reporting.
  • Utilizes appropriate project team members as contributors, reviewers, and approvers of project documentation to produce high-quality project deliverables.
  • Provides regular updates to Project Sponsor(s) on project progress.
  • Plans, coordinates and executes go-live activities. Ensures effective communication throughout the go-live process including task hand-offs.
  • Facilitate project transition and close-out activities.


Knowledge - Skills - Abilities

Task/Project Management - Able to independently manage assigned projects and tasks to accurately complete them within budget and by the due date with high customer satisfaction. Approaches project management activities in a consultative and collaborative manner. Able to manage multiple resources and projects concurrently. Works primarily independently and asks for guidance as needed. Able to identify, estimate, and complete tasks required for the project.



Preferred Schedule:




Monday - Friday 8:00-5:00



Position Requirements:

Specifications

Appropriate experience may be substituted for education on an equivalent basis

Minimum Required Education: Bachelor's Degree

Minimum Required Experience: 5-7 years of experience in a formal project management setting

Field: Management Information Services, Computer Science, Business or related field.

Certification: Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) Preferred
