Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital opened on Jan. 24, 1955 as a 238-bed community hospital. Today, the hospital is a 1,101-bed major academic and referral center withLevel I adult traumaandLevel II pediatric traumadesignations. Corewell Health William Beaumont University Hospital has 43 residency and fellowship programs with 454 residents and fellows. Corewell is the exclusive clinical partner of the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, with more than 1,400 Beaumont doctors on faculty.

Scope of Work

The music therapy fellowship offers one- year of experience to an entry-level (less than 2 years of professional experience in a pediatric setting) Board-Certified Music Therapist. The Music Therapy Fellow is responsible for providing therapeutic music interventions and assisting children with coping skills during health care experiences. The Music Therapy Fellow will offer music therapy services to pediatric patients of varying ages, diagnosis, prognosis, abilities, and cultural backgrounds. Utilizing developmentally appropriate music interventions, the Music Therapy Fellow provides support to children and families in order to lessen the stress of the hospital experience. The Music Therapy Fellow, under the clinical supervision of a Board-certified Music Therapist will integrate knowledge of the physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of children, adolescents and their families and integrate this knowledge into treatment planning and delivery of services. The Music Therapy Fellow will also act as a liaison to the community for music programs and philanthropy.

Qualifications

  • Required Bachelor's Degree or equivalent Bachelor's, Bachelor's Equivalent, or Master's degree in Music Therapy from a school accredited approved by American Music Therapy Association.
  • Required Must have completed the clinical internship from an approved national roster internship site or a university/college affiliated internship site, preferably within the hospital setting.
  • 2 years of relevant experience Because of the educational component of this fellowship, the music therapist must have LESS than 2 years of experience in the pediatric hospital setting. Required
  • Experience with the following preferred: heartbeat recording intervention, recording and music technology, procedural support, bereavement support, collaborating with an Interdisciplinary Team, pain management techniques, adapted music lessons, and proficiency on drum set, violin and hand drums. Preferred
  • CRT-Board Cert Music Therapist (BC-MT) - CBMT Certification Board for Music Therapist Must hold the MT-BC credential, issued through the Certification Board for Music Therapists. Music therapy interns who have not yet taken the board-certification exam may apply. If accepted, their position will be contingent on passing the exam before the fellowship start date.
