The Quality Specialist Intern position will be responsible for performing a variety of assignments related to TCI's ISO 9001 Quality Management System. The person selected for this position will work on a range of hands-on assignments including nonconforming materials, customer returns and analysis, measuring and test equipment calibration, auditing manufacturing and business processes and products, and manufacturing process quality control. This opportunity will allow the person selected to gain valuable professional experience within an industry leading company, and contribute to TCI's business success.

Highlight of Typical Job Responsibilities

  • Participate in Quality Management System (QMS) internal audits of manufacturing and business processes and products.
  • Perform incoming inspection audits.
  • Perform manufacturing in-process audits.
  • Perform finished product audits.
  • Perform studies of manufacturing processes for process quality control and potential improvement.
  • Evaluate and disposition nonconforming product ensuring the required documentation accurately reflects what occurred.
  • Working with the appropriate manufacturing supervisor, evaluate and disposition returned product.
  • Analyze customer returned product to understand why it was returned, determine the root cause, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Perform measuring equipment calibration and coordinate test equipment calibration and all documentation.
  • Working in a manufacturing facility around winding equipment, assembly, welding, varnish dipping and baking, and electrical testing operations.


Required Competencies

  • Must be able to read and interpret standard engineering drawings and specifications
  • Must be able to use measuring equipment such as tape measure, caliper, and micrometer

Additional Desired Competencies

  • Experience with ISO 9001 based Quality Management Systems
  • Basic knowledge of QRM or lean


Basic Qualifications for Consideration Include

  • Current enrollment at an accredited college or university engineering or related program (UW-Milwaukee, UW-Madison or equivalent).
  • Prefer a Junior or Senior pursuing a degree in Industrial, Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering.


Work Schedule Available

  • Full time during summer
  • Part time during semester
